It truly is the golden age of gourmet burgers across Australia, but one debate that has raged for years is what is the best fast food burger.

While a vote on the best burger in Australia could descend into Sydney residents championing Mary’s and Brisbane burger fans gathering around Ben’s Burgers, news.com.au decided to find out the best burger from your favourite fast food joint.

As part of Australia’s Favourite, we wanted to know your favourite. And the results are in.

Go on, admit it. You order the Filet-o-Fish.

The humble Filet-o-Fish, the Macca’s burger that no-one ever admits to buying (outside Good Friday), has come out on top, just beating KFC’s Zinger Burger.

Sure, we may have encouraged you to vote for the Filet-o-Fish, but its victory only goes to prove that we were right to do that.

Nearly 19,000 had their say in the news.com.au survey. Hungry Jack’s Whopper came in third, while the Big Mac just beating Oporto’s Bondi Burger.

Some readers were however disappointed the Quarter Pounder (or the Royale with Cheese if you’re French) wasn’t an option. We can only offer a sincere apology.
