Aldi ‘dupe’ of Golden Gaytime goes viral in TikTok video
The discount supermarket has a near-identical version of a popular Australian ice cream that’s proved a huge hit with shoppers and online.
A TikTok video detailing Aldi’s best desserts has gone viral – and it includes a dupe for Golden Gaytime ice cream.
Sydney foodie @mernasfoodfomo has shared her top picks from the discount supermarket chain in a video that’s since been viewed more than 43,000 times.
Merna shares how Aldi stocks near identical versions of popular products, including Golden Gaytime and Kinder Bueno chocolate.
According to Merna, “Aldi has the best chocolate ever” with their Liviano version a dupe for Kinder Bueno.
Aldi’s Summer Delight ice cream is also a dupe for Golden Gaytime, with the added convenience of coming in a tub, Merna said.
The supermarket’s Summer Delight ice cream has been around since 2018 in bar form when it caused a similar frenzy.
Aldi has now launched a tub version for $3.99 — but it’s for a limited time only, so be warned.
But her top pick wasn’t a dupe, with Merna saying that the “holy grail” dessert was Aldi’s new Chocolopita Hazelnut Praline, a sweet pastry pie with a chocolate centre.
Merna’s picks got the tick of approval from other Aldi fans, who said the supermarket had the “best stuff” when it came to sweets.
$7 SPANAKOPITA ALDI’S ‘BEST-KEPT SECRET’
Merna was also behind a viral video earlier this week about Aldi’s $7 spanakopita, labelling it the store’s “best-kept secret” because it was made in Greece.
“I’m going to share a little secret with you,” Merna explains in the video. “It’s this spanakopita from Aldi and it’s made in Greece.”
Merna said the spanakopita from Aldi’s freezer aisle was “so easy” to make into a delicious meal as all you needed to do was pop it into the oven at 180 degrees and cook for 40 minutes.
“Honestly this is Aldi’s best kept secret, I usually hoard boxes of this,” she said, before sharing the “most satisfying shots” of the cooked product.
“It’s beautiful, buttery and crunchy on the outside and then you’ve got this gorgeous spinach and ricotta mix on the inside,” Merna said.
“It’s so fun to eat. Anyway, you’ll thank me, trust me, yum.”
It seems plenty of people agreed with Merna, with the video racking up more than 35,000 views from fans of the product, who jokingly chastised the TikTok user for giving away their “secret”.
“Why did you show this, everyone one is going to take them now lol,” one person commented, while another added: “What are you doing they’re hard enough to get them, they are awesome.”
Others said the Aldi spanakopita usually “sells out” at their local store and was better than homemade versions.
