Coca-Cola releases ‘unexpected’ new flavour, dividing drink fans
The popular fizzy drink has collaborated with an iconic snack brand to create a new flavour that has left many Aussies divided.
Coca-Cola has just unveiled a new flavour – and it’s fair to say fizzy drink fans are divided.
The beverage brand has partnered with popular biscuit company Oreo to make a limited-edition drink that tastes like the chocolate and cream snack.
Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar is the latest in a long line of unusual flavours which have been released as part of the Coca-Cola Creations campaign, which first launched in 2022.
The new flavour will hit stores in Australia from September 9 and will also be released as a Frozen Coke variety at participating McDonald’s restaurants later in the year.
But despite not having even tried it yet, many Coke fans have been divided over the “unique flavour combination”, taking to social media to air their views.
“No, just no,” one Aussie declared on TikTok.
“Don’t think these flavours mix,” another agreed.
“This should never have happened,” mused someone else.
However, there were plenty more who admitted they were “intrigued” by the thought of a biscuit-infused Coca-Cola.
“Something unique coming to Australia. I’m down,” one declared.
“So keen,” added another, while one said: “Ooo, interesting.”
Coca-Cola said it wanted to “offer the most exciting flavour combinations to Aussies that are new and unexpected”.
“This is why we are bringing together the playfulness of Oreo and the ‘Real Magic’ of Coca-Cola to make the perfect pairing,” said Kate Miller, Senior Marketing Director at Coca-Cola South Pacific.
“We’re thrilled to invite Aussie besties to join us in celebrating friendship and hope that they enjoy the flavour combination that this first-of-its-kind collaboration brings.”
As part of the collaboration, Oreo’s have also given their biscuits a flavour-makeover, creating the Limited-Edition Oreo Coca-Cola flavoured Sandwich Cookies.
These “bring to life” the famous Coke taste fans know and love, and feature an embossed Coca-Cola designs on each biscuit.
The cookie itself is also red and has sprinkles in the creme filling.
Earlier this year Coca-Cola took inspiration from K-Pop music for another limited-edition flavour.
Coca-Cola K-Wave Zero Sugar was described as featuring a “burst of fruity-flavoured K-Pop magic”.
