Coca-Cola Australia launches new Y3000 Zero Sugar in Woolworths

A mystery new Coke flavour described as “future-flavoured” is confusing Aussies after the colourful cans were spotted on Woolies shelves.

Weird new Coca-Cola flavour lands in Australia

A wild new Coca-Cola flavour that has been created with the help of artificial intelligence is now being sold in Australia.

Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar has just hit our shores, a limited-edition variety that is described as “future-flavoured”, though what exactly that means is unclear.

The new Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar is one of an array of unusual new flavours the cult-drink brand has been releasing around the world as part of its “Creations” campaign which launched in 2022.

Overseas, the brand launched Coca-Cola Starlight and Coca-Cola Move, which are inspired by things such as music – but the Australian edition is inspired by technology with the help of artificial intelligence as well as customer input

Despite only officially launching on Wednesday, eagle-eyed Aussies have already spotted the colourful cans on shelves in Woolworths and have been busily trying to figure out the flavour.

TikTok user @kailairl shared a video showing herself trying the drink, but not before asking what “future flavour even meant”.

“Okay this is interesting. I’m getting bubblegum and blueberry flavours,” she said.

“It doesn’t taste like zero sugar at all. It’s very fruity. I actually love it.”

Despite declaring she loved the new Coke, she did also state it was a “weird drink”.

Other social media users were equally as baffled by the flavour, with many sharing their guesses online.

“It tastes like Bubble O Bill,” one claimed, as another raged: “It was horrendous.”

“It’s got to be banana,” someone else mused.

“I’m not sure why some hate it, it’s actually good,” one bloke chipped in.

Coca-Cola said the “Creations” flavours were about giving customers “unexpected and magical moments”.

“We wanted to create a refreshing, future-themed drink that blends Coca-Cola’s signature taste with the power of artificial intelligence,” Livia De Salvo, the marketing manager for Coca-Cola Australia, said.

“With the help of AI-powered technology, Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar imagines how a Coca-Cola from the future tastes and introduces innovative experiences to explore the future. It’s the Coca-Cola taste you love while bringing something new to your tastebuds.

“We can’t wait for people to try it.”

To create the flavour, key themes and style preference were put into an AI image generator to create a mood board that inspired the look of the product.

Flavour trends were also looked at to discover what shoppers would think the future would taste like.

There is also a QR code on the can, which customers can scan to be taken to the Creations Hub, where they can look at what the future could be like thanks to an AI lens.

Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar is available in convenience and grocery stores across the Australia until stocks run out.
