A creative home cook has revealed her surprisingly simple recipe for making “heavenly” deep-fried ice cream balls.

The decadent dessert was made using just two ingredients: ice cream and cornflakes and was cooked using an air fryer.

Taking to a Facebook group dedicated to the cult appliance, the Aussie woman shared two snaps which showed her stunning “air-fried” creations.

“Air-fried ice cream! Ice cream scoops (cricket ball-sized) sprinkled with cinnamon and rolled in crushed Crunchie Nut cereal or Cornflakes,” she captioned her post.

She explained her method involved shaping ice cream into balls, coating them in cereal, and then returning them to the freezer for four hours, or until hard.

Before cooking, it was advised to preheat the appliance for five minutes on a setting of 200.

When sufficiently hot, the woman said she placed the ice cream balls on baking paper and allowed these to cook for four minutes.

“Crunchie coating, frozen ice cream. Air fryer strikes again,” the delighted woman said.

She informed keen cooks the balls needed to be frozen for as long as possible for the best result.

“I used a super blast function on mine so overnight if possible.

“Cook for 2-3 minutes or check regularly to prevent melting. Good luck.”

Home cooks have used their air fryers to cook all manner of foods from dumplings to roast pork as well as revealing it could be used to make a full big breakfast.

Air fryers, a popular choice for those watching their fat intake, work by circulating hot air around the food, in much the same way hot oil surrounds “deep-fried” food to cook it all the way through.

Part of the air fryer’s appeal is that not only does it cook food without the need for oil, it will also make food crispy.
