Aldi favourite disappears from shelves

One shopper said they were “gutted” to discover the cult desserts had been “deleted” from stores, prompting outcry from others.

$5 Aldi freezer item shoppers raving about

One of the reasons Aldi is so popular is that the supermarket stocks items you just won’t find in other stores – what other place can you buy a flat screen TV while picking up milk and bread?

But on the flip side it can sometimes cause outcry when a popular item sells out and turns out to be for a limited time only – as fans of Aldi’s mini doughnuts have sadly discovered.

Aldi recently began selling Sweet Haven mini doughnuts which came frozen in two flavours: strawberry and chocolate-flavoured hazelnut.

They joined Urban Eats’ chocolate-filled mini churros, with shoppers labelling the limited edition desserts a “great hit” for families.

But now one mum has revealed the three desserts have been “deleted” from stores, with the supermarket known for marking limited edition products with a “D” when they won’t be restocked.

“For those of you who were lucky enough to try these, I have some bad news,” her post in the Aldi Mums Facebook group began.

“These were a great hit with my family. We absolutely loved them. Today I tried both my stores and no luck, only to find out they have been deleted.”

The mum said a staff member “advised me to send an email to Aldi and complain” as this could persuade them to bring back the desserts as a permanent item.

“I am absolutely gutted,” the Victorian woman wrote. “These were such a great treat for the family.”

Her post attracted more than 100 comments from shoppers who were equally upset by the news.

“This is what annoys me about Aldi,” one person wrote. “You buy things you like, then go back and they are gone and they aren’t even a Special Buy.”

“Worst thing about Aldi they bring in some great things, only to discontinue them a few months later,” another commented.

“Don’t do this to us in lockdown,” one shopper pleaded.

News.com.au previously confirmed that Aldi staff will often mark the price tag of limited-edition products that won’t be replenished, so they can find them easily on shelves.

The trick was first discovered back in February when an employee confirmed on Facebook that Aldi’s Urban Eats Bao Buns were being discontinued.

As well as its mainstay items Aldi has a range of limited time only or seasonal products which include specialty cheese, desserts and freezer foods.

Occasionally these items become so popular Aldi decides to stock them year-round, with its Urban Eats spanakopita and cheese tiropita becoming permanent freezer fixtures last year.
