Celebrity chef reveals how she lost 25kg in just four months
A celebrity chef who has cooked for Oprah and Jacinda Ardern has revealed how she lost 25kg in just four months without exercising.
A chef who has cooked for Oprah Winfrey and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has hesitantly shared an image of how she once looked.
Bridget Davis opened up on how she lost 25kg, in just four months, without exercising.
The professional chef and food writer, who was 90kg at her heaviest, has attributed her weight loss to lots of protein and adding lots of flavour to her meals.
“It takes a lot of courage to share this with you, my family and friends. The picture on the left was taken 4 months ago,” she said in a recent blog on her website Bridget’s Healthy Kitchen.
“I’m living proof that even as a food obsessed chef, I can still eat amazing gourmet food whilst putting my health and wellness front and centre.”
The New Zealand chef said it just takes some willing adjustment to your thinking and behaviour.
“Brain fog gone, bloating gone, stomach upsets gone, mood swings gone, tiredness gone,” she said.
Davis, who was a size 18, said she always knew how to cook, understands flavours and textures and how to make things taste delicious, but realised she actually didn’t know how to eat.
“I could feed people well but when it came to the nutrition I was putting in my body, I had absolutely no idea.”
The renowned cook, who was head chef for Bill Granger as his iconic Bills restaurant in Darlinghurst, Sydney, now eats little to no gluten, dairy and/or sugar.
“I didn’t like myself, there was a lot of self loathing going on,” Davis said in an interview with The Cafe last year.
But since going on to lose the weight she said she feels on top of the world physically and mentally.
“Good food need not be bland or boring when you have the right recipes at your fingertips cue Bridget’s Healthy Kitchen where I share all my healthy delicious creations. Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
Yesterday, Davis, who runs food blog The Internet Chef, told Newshub one of her top tips for losing weight was to start the day with protein, like chicken or eggs.
“Lunch should be the largest meal of the day and include protein,” she added.
“As a middle-aged woman with three children, I thought being overweight was just part of life. Now that I realise that I was just putting the wrong things into my body and have taken those out of my diet, I have more energy than I’ve ever had, my mood swings have elevated,” she told Newshub.
Earlier this year the chef also shared two side-by-side images saying she barely recognises the woman on the left.
“She looks swollen, her eyes are heavy, her skin looks greasy,” Davis said about herself from 10 years ago.
“In a couple of months I transformed the way I look, my health and the way I feel. Happier, healthier, thinner and more energetic then I've been in decades and I did it all with food and eating well.”
Davis said she now looks at life differently.
“I’ve written three cookbooks in a year and a half, that’s how much energy I have.”
Her latest cookbook is Bridget’s Healthy Kitchen.
