Michelle Bridges prefers to take baby son to fitness dates and meetings
MOTHERHOOD and fitness really do mix according to trainer Michelle Bridges, who is writing a new fitness and nutrition column which launches in The Sunday Telegraph’s body+soul section this weekend.
SHE runs a multi-million dollar business empire that reaches across the globe but Michelle Bridges’ most important job is her newest one — being mum to eight-week-old Axel.
The fitness guru is not planning to hire a nanny just yet, preferring to take her baby with her as she rushes from training sessions to meetings and interviews.
“I don’t have a nanny, and I am not planning on getting one right now,” she said.
“I may have to have one in future, someone who can come in on a case-by-case basis.
“I put out an Instagram shot of me training outside. Ninety-eight per cent of people were supportive, but some said: ‘Oh, maybe if I had a nanny I could do that’. No, I don’t have a nanny, he’s actually here with me, we are out together. No nanny required.”
Bridges will be even busier this year, writing a new fitness, nutrition and wellbeing column for body+soul in The Sunday Telegraph, which will begin on February 21.
She will join fellow columnist Steve “The Commando” Willis — her partner, the father of her son Axel, and a fellow Biggest Loser trainer.
“My column will only ever be about empowering people, giving them some tools. Some of the tools they will love and put in their tool room, some they will hate, and that is fine,” she said.
“But it will only ever be about a positive message, trying to empower people to look after themselves.”
Bridges and Willis share a passion for getting Australia fit and healthy.
They love to train together, they “inspire” rather than compete, Bridges says, and they bring different strengths to their sessions.
She favours cardio and weights, while Willis is an expert in CrossFit and a big believer in stretching and flexibility.
Their columns will be separate, but Bridges says they might occasionally combine them.
“Maybe we’ll do a column on How To Train With Your Partner Without Murdering Him.”
Bridges says she loves motherhood, despite three-hourly overnight breast feeds and little sleep. Willis, who already has three children from previous relationships, is a great help, she says.
“He’s changing nappies and disinfecting bottles,” she said.
“He’s very organised — it’s an army thing.”
