Sydney influencer reveals ‘sad’ reaction to viral bikini video
The Sydney influencer’s “crazy” swimsuit video went viral in a matter of hours – but sparked a surprising response to one detail.
With photo and video editing becoming more and more sophisticated, it’s very easy to drastically change your social media posts – as one Sydney influencer has found out.
Ariella Nyssa is a 25-year-old model and self-love advocate who has more than 1.7 million followers across TikTok and Instagram.
Earlier this week she posted a video to TikTok showing how it was possible for anyone to edit their body in a video using an editing app.
Ariella told news.com.au she was “in shock” at how much she was able to edit.
“I actually had no idea it was as easy as going on an app and editing your body like that,” she said.
“I know people edit their bodies in photos and it’s easy, but I had no idea that you could just click a button and it could change your whole body in a video.”
The clip showed Ariella posing in a green bikini in a camera, before it reverted to real footage of what her body looked like.
“These apps are crazy and scary, you are beautiful just the way you are queen,” she captioned the TikTok.
The video is part of a TikTok trend started by @coraliekarczewski which shows just how easily celebrities and influencers can now edit video footage of themselves.
Ariella’s video has since been viewed more than 1.6 million times, however, got a rather unexpected response from viewers who bombarded her with questions about what app she had used.
“I don’t love myself, so sis what’s the name of the app?” one asked.
“What’s the app? Don’t gatekeep,” another commented.
“Why are ya’ll asking for the app?” one viewer pointed out. “She’s making a point to love yourself for who you are!”
Ariella told news.com.au it had been disappointing, but not a surprise to see the response to the video on TikTok.
”It’s kind of sad to read it (that reaction),” she said. “I tried to reply to a few and be like, ‘you don’t need it’ but unfortunately people just don’t love themselves enough, and that is why I do post what I post and I want people to know that you can look and feel beautiful without having to edit and smooth or contort your body in certain ways.”
Since becoming an influencer three years ago Ariella said there had been a huge spike in how often editing apps were used on social media.

While she doesn’t edit her photos, Ariella doesn’t have a problem with other influencers choosing to tweak their content – as long as are “honest and open” about what changes they’ve made to their content.
“I’m all for you do you, if you want to edit your features or if that makes you feel better about yourself, go for it,” she said.
“But you need to tell people that you’re doing that, because that is what I think is the detrimental thing … especially young girls as they have no idea, they just think that’s what you look like all the time and they start comparing themselves.”
