Mrs Hinch: Cleaning guru reveals hidden scar after gastric band surgery

Sophie Hinchcliffe has more than 3.6 million followers who love her cleaning hacks, but now she’s decided to share a “strange” fact about herself.

She’s famous for her cleaning hacks and interior tips but Mrs Hinch, aka Sophie Hinchliffe, has opened up about one of her biggest insecurities.

The social media star – who boasts more than 3.6 million followers – shared a photo of herself sitting in her car wearing in a floral dress which showed off her arms.

The 30-year-old also owns the bargain dress in a polka dot print and admitted that she liked the off-shoulder style because it hides her surgery scars.

She wrote: “In all honesty, I also like this dress because it also covers my arms.

“Lots of you already know about this because it’s written in my first book but I had surgery on my arms once so I of course have been left with scarring but this dress makes me feel like my arms are covered.”

Zooming in on her scar, she added: “Maybe this is a strange picture but … THIS IS ME and I think it’s so important for people to remember that everyone has their own story to tell, we are all special in our own way.”

The star has previously spoken about how she put on weight as a teenager and took out a loan when she was 21 to pay for a $10,700 gastric band.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Sophie revealed that she’d regularly hop in the car to get takeaways at McDonald’s Drive-Thrus after leaving home.

She said: “Before I knew it, I was eating for what felt like eating’s sake. I was getting pizzas and deliveries. I love food, even now.”

In her first book Hinch Yourself Happy, Sophie revealed that her gastric band slipped two years after it was fitted and became lodged in her oesophagus.

Although Sophie lost 50 kilos while the band was fitted correctly, she was left with excess skin on her arms – which not only made clothes shopping a nightmare but was also painful.

She wrote: “I kept getting problems with excess skin. It was getting inflamed and blistering. It was painful.

“If I bought a size 10 or 12 top or jacket in a shop, it would fit me everywhere else but not the arms. I was smaller but I still couldn’t buy clothes in the size I actually was.”

In 2016, Sophie went to her GP because she thought she had an infected armpit but was told the excess skin needed to be removed as soon as possible.

While the surgery itself went well, Sophie was told she had an internal infection on her left arm when she returned for her post-op appointment.

Describing how her arms “blew up to three times their size”, Sophie wrote: “They had to drain them urgently and blast the IV with antibiotics.

“I ended up staying in hospital for two weeks and I genuinely thought I was going to lose my left arm at one point.”

Luckily, Sophie recovered and now has to use a Powerspin device to make sure blood is flowing around her arms properly.

And while she admitted that the scars are still something she sometimes feels insecure about, the star had the confidence to wear a strapless dress on her wedding day and for baby Ronnie’s baby shower.
