Australian fitness blogger slams ‘rude’ question she’s always asked

An Australian fitness blogger has revealed she’s constantly asked a “completely inappropriate” question — and she’s had enough.

Never cook dinner on a weeknight again

Fitness blogger Katie Lolas is used to answering queries about her exercise regimen or meal prep recipes, but there’s one “completely inappropriate” question she won’t tolerate anymore.

The schoolteacher and meal prep queen is sick of being asked if she is expecting a baby because Ms Lolas is “devastated” by the fact that she isn’t pregnant yet.

In a candid post on Instagram, Ms Lolas shared a series of photos in a crop top and leggings, showing how her body looked different from multiple angles.

“Asking a woman if she’s pregnant isn’t nice. I know most people mean well, but it’s completely inappropriate,” she wrote.

“Pointing out what you might perceive as a ‘baby bump’ is not cool. It’s actually quite rude.”

Ms Lolas added that it was “none of your business” when a couple decided to get pregnant as it was a “deeply personal and loaded” topic.

“This is my body. It looks different depending on what I’m wearing. What angle a photo is taken. I have lumps, bumps and everything in between,” she wrote.

“FYI I’m not pregnant. This is what a perfectly healthy belly looks like. I’ll let you know in my own time when it happens for us.”

Ms Lolas said she had decided to share the post after being subjected to painful questions about when she was having children.

“To be honest, I’m devastated that I’m not pregnant yet. It’s a sensitive issue and it pains me every time someone brings it up, so I wanted to create some clear boundaries about the inappropriateness of that kind of questioning,” she told news.com.au.

Like most women, Ms Lolas also pointed out that she didn’t want to be told she looked like she was pregnant when she wasn’t.

“I also felt quite embarrassed that apparently I look like I am pregnant? So essentially they’re pointing out my bloated belly. I suffer from IBS so my stomach changes constantly throughout the day and I don’t need anyone to bring that to my attention,” she said.

Ms Lolas’ post has since attracted more than 600 comments from other women empathising with her situation.

“I’ve been really encouraged by the response and it’s made me feel I made the right decision by sharing my post,” Ms Lolas said.

Ms Lolas’ post was praised by her 160,000 followers, with several commenting that they too had been subjected to the same rude questions.

“I just had a stranger at a store ask me that two days ago! I seriously told her, ‘I’m just bloated and I feel like crap so, thanks for that one’ and I walked away,” one wrote.

“This!! My partner and I have been trying for 14 months and I hate the questions we always get,” another added.

“We cannot have children, been married for 21 years! The (question) I get asked is don’t you like children! Seriously!!!!! Pregnancy is very personal and people don’t always find it easy … well said,” another commented.

‘THIS IS JUST HOW I LOOK’

Last week former Bachelorette Georgia Love hit back at people asking if she was pregnant after fiance Lee Elliott shared a photo of them at a friend’s wedding.

The Instagram picture showed the couple, who recently got engaged after meeting on reality TV in 2016, leaning in for a kiss, with Love looking stunning in a floor-length black gown.

But after the picture attracted comments speculating about whether she had a “baby bump”, Love hit back in an Instagram post of her own.

“I’m not pregnant. No I haven’t just eaten pasta or had a big lunch. This is just how I look. And I’m really, really sick of being made to feel like it’s not good enough,” she wrote.

Love continued that the types of questions that were acceptable on a photo of a happy couple were ones about their outfits or the beautiful wedding they attended.

“This is a happy photo of two happy people celebrating their friends’ wedding. In what world should my body come into it?” she said, adding people didn’t even notice she “wasn’t even wearing underwear” because they were so distracted by her tummy.
