Optical illusion dress makes return at 2023 New York Fashion Week
A see-through dress loved by a number of stars is officially back after actress Megan Fox sparked a rush for the “sexy” new version.
An “optical illusion dress” adored by a string of famous women is making a comeback at New York Fashion Week.
The “abstract-print slim-fit woven maxi dress”, made by leading designer Jean Paul Gaultier, first became popular when worn by Kim Kardashian to the E! People’s Choice Awards in 2018.
But while the $695 black striped dress, which is completely sheer, went on to be worn by a string of celebrities in the years that followed, including Lizzo and Julia Fox, the gown has now been released in a new colour.
TikTok star Remi Bader rocked the underwear flashing maxi to the Victoria’s Secret World Tour fashion show red carpet recently in a fiery orange hue.
The 28-year-old looked amazing in the dress, which features a striking optical illusion design, as she attended a screening of the lingerie retailer’s new fashion show film.
Megan Fox also recently sported the killer look, a detail Ms Bader noted during a get-ready-with-me video filmed before the event.
“I had this dress before Megan Fox wore it, but I was inspired by the hair that she did with this and her makeup,” the social media user star said, Page Six reported.
The content creator — who has modelled for Victoria’s Secret in the past — asked her fans for their opinion on her underwear for the event, noting that she was driven to try the stripy dress after seeing it on “another plus-sized influencer,” Emma Arletta.
“Who would have ever thought in my life that I’d be on the same red carpet as other VS Angels,” Ms Bader added.
Initially she tried on nude undergarments before changing into a red Victoria’s Secret lingerie set to make a statement under the sheer dress.
Ms Bader’s appearance at the Victoria’s Secret event comes after the brand brought back its annual fashion show for the first time in four years — this time in a streaming format on Amazon Prime — after facing criticism for its lack of diversity in terms of size and race.
“I feel like a lot of these brands and different retailers … will make clothing tailored to plus-size people thinking that maybe they want to dress frumpier or looser clothes,” she told Page Six at the time.
However Ms Bader, who says she enjoys “form-fitting, sexy” looks, praised the retailer for listening to her audience’s feedback.
“What’s great and shows that they’re listening is that they actually implement that,” she tell us.
The Victoria’s Secret World Tour will air on Amazon Prime on September 26.
