Discount supermarket chain Aldi is selling a budget version of a cult beauty product this week – but does it match up to the pricey original?

Aldi- The secrets behind those "Special Buys"

Beauty bargain hunters be warned: Aldi is selling a dupe of a cult product this week – but skincare fans are still out on whether it lives up to the pricey original.

Swedish brand Foreo’s Luna 3 silicone face cleanser device retails for $299 and promises to gently clean your skin using electric pulses.

The cleaning gadget has been a cult beauty buy since it was launched by the brand in 2013, with the popular product spawning similar versions from other brands.

But Aldi’s version of the silicone cleansing device has got shoppers’ interest when it was revealed it would be part of the brand’s Special Buys this Wednesday – mainly because at $9.99 it is a fraction of the price.

In a post in the Aldi Mums Facebook group, one shopper asked if the silicone gadgets worked as well as they promised.

Several shoppers said that for $10 it was worth a shot, with one person commenting: “I’ve got a Foreo one, the $75 one. I don’t think it’s amazing but is okay! For $10 I’d get the Aldi one!!”

“For ten bucks you can’t go wrong,” another said.

Others said they had tried versions from other stores, but with mixed results.

“I purchased a similar one from Target a year or so ago and don’t know what the big deal is. Aldi’s is maybe superior,” one person wrote, while another added: “Daiso sell an exfoliant pad that has a little thing on the back to hold on to. It’s probably about $2 and does the same job. No batteries necessary, just your muscles.”

But not everyone knew exactly what the gadget did, with one person commenting: “Oh god I thought it was a silicone scrubbing brush for the dishes lol.”

It’s not the only dupe of an expensive beauty product Aldi sells, with its Lacura skin caviar range sparking a frenzy whenever it hits stores during Special Buys sales.

Fans of the Aldi product say it is a dupe for expensive French brand La Prarie, which sells its moisturisers for upwards of $575 while the supermarket’s version sells for $19.99.
