Aldi causes chaos over $30 Skin Caviar gift set

Aldi shoppers were left furious after a sought-after Special Buys item was “cleared out” in just minutes by “feral” shoppers.

Aldi: The secrets behind those "Special Buys"

Aldi shelves were stripped bare in a “feral” frenzy over a limited edition item.

The German budget supermarket released two Christmas gift sets on Saturday from its Lacura beauty range — including one filled with the brand’s sellout Caviar range.

However, many shoppers were left disappointed when the $29.99 sets were completely out of stock in “a matter of minutes” after some shoppers “cleared out” the shelves by buying in bulk.

“Yet again feral shoppers cleared out ALL of the Caviar product in one swoop just minutes after opening,” one angry shopper vented in the Facebook Group, Aldi Mums.

“Frankly I am sick to death of this happening and want Aldi to start policing this.”

Others shared similar sentiments, stating it was like “mission impossible” to score a Caviar product.

“Went to Aldi two times today and no luck finding the caviar set,” one wrote on Instagram.

“Sold out within 10 mins of being stocked in stores …” another wrote, alongside a photo of the empty branded Caviar boxes.

Aldi’s Caviar range has been described as a “dupe” of luxury brand La Prairie, whose moisturisers sell upwards of $575. While Aldi’s Caviar Day Cream and its Night Cream sell for $19.99, saving a whopping $555.

However the gift set consisted of both the creams as well as a Night Mousse, making it extremely good value.

Also on offer was a CellStation gift box, consisting of a day and night cream as well as an eye cream — which was also $29.99.

Those that were lucky enough to get their hands on these sought-after sets have been sharing posts of their hauls on Instagram.

Lacura has been a big success for the budget supermarket, with the brand releasing multiple different ranges under the brand.

Recently it launched Lacura You, which featured just three items, a “hydrating” day cream and a “rejuvenating” night cream, both of which cost $5.99, and a “booster” serum for $8. Its unique selling point were the five variants of the booster that you are meant to choose based on your specific skin concerns and then mix with the creams to create your own “custom” blend. The options are vitamin C, vitamin E, collagen, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin A.

However the Caviar range is undoubtedly it’s most popular range, regularly selling out whenever it is featured as part of the store’s “Special Buys”.

The hype around the line has caused it to appear on eBay in the past — but for three times its original price.

Earlier this year, two of Aldi’s regular Lacura products that you can buy all year round took home crowns in the 2019 Product of the Year Awards — Lacura Skin Science Renew Expert Wrinkle Smoother and Lacura Skin Science Renew Expert Eye Gel.
