A Townsville landlord has been left horrified at the state of her house.

Owner Alana Blyth said she was given a tip-off to check out the rental and couldn’t believe what she found.

Videos of the property shared to TikTok showed stained furniture, old food with maggots and trash spread across the property.

“My jaw just unhinged and everywhere I looked it was the most obscene, horrendous, disgusting, like every word imaginable,” she told news.com.au.

“That’s why I went on TikTok because I was so full of different emotions and I just needed some validation.”

Ms Blyth said the repairs and clean-up would cost her thousands of dollars.

“They’ve done so much damage,” she said. “The timber hardwood floors … the smell is stuck in the timber, all of the painting has to be redone. Everything has to be redone. They’ve broken the railings for the stairs.

“It’s just inconceivable how much they’ve managed to do in such a short amount of time.”

She said there were two adults and five children living in the two-bedroom house for about ten months.

“They had some of the children under the house on the cement,” she claimed. “It’s not big enough for a car but I guess storage or maybe like a rumpus room or something. It’s not sealed in. It’s open.”

Ms Blyth said the tenants, who had also previously rented a commercial property from her, were behind on rent and essentially “did a runner” leaving the mess behind.

The videos posted on social media have racked up tens of thousands of views.

“As someone who is homeless in Townsville, this makes me so angry. I would love nothing more than to have my own home to love and look after and people just don’t appreciate what they had,” one person wrote.

“Oh god I’m literally gagging watching this. I’ll never understand,” read another comment.

“The next time I beat myself up because I feel like a terrible mum when my daughter’s room is untidy, I’m going to remind myself of this video,” penned a third.

“This is why we will never buy an investment property; the renters have more rights than the owners,” wrote someone else.
