Married At First Sight star Jacqui Burfoot’s reveals surprise home revelation
Controversial Married At First Sight star Jacqui Burfoot has revealed her $2.7m hack, urging others who want to get rich to follow.
Married At First Sight star Jacqui Burfoot has revealed she’s a “rentvestor” and advocates for those living in big cities to follow her lead.
The controversial reality star — who’s paired with Ryan Donnelly in this year’s season — took to TikTok to share that she rented the Sydney home she lived in but had “multiple property interests”, otherwise known as rentvesting.
“I have my own money, my parents are property developers and I have multiple property interests,” Burfoot said.

“Just because you’re not living in a home you own, it doesn’t mean ... you can’t afford it.”
She added that it often made more financial sense to be a rentvestor, particularly if you lived in a big city like Sydney.
“The place I used to rent was worth like $2.7m, so it’s actually cheaper because the rental yields are lower to be renting that place than to own it because of mortgage interest rates,” she said.
“It makes sense to be purchasing in high-growth pockets, so property development, where you can gain more in capital gains and then basically rent it out with a higher rental yield that covers the mortgage and interest rates.”
Burfoot said anyone who had a finance or property background, or was a property investor, would be able to explain this concept as it was very common for those that lived in big cities not to actually own their home.
Prominent buyer’s advocate Emily Wallace said rentvesting offered flexibility and the lifestyle of living in a bigger city without having to commit, but it had become more costly recently.
“Rents are ridiculous at the moment so I don’t know how cost effective it actually is,” Ms Wallace said.
“It is getting harder to rentvest unless you’re happy to compromise on the interior of the property. So the ones that are a bit more daggy, a bit more dated.”
The buyer’s agent owns a number of properties herself and rents where she lives.
But Ms Wallace said her weekly rent had surged by an extra $80 a week recently, which had made her question whether or not it was still worth it to rentvest.
