A young mum who died at the hands of her abusive ex-boyfriend made a desperate triple-0 call as her would-be killer’s behaviour spiralled out of control.

“My ex-boyfriend’s broken in,” Mackenzie Anderson told the operator.

“I’ve woken up to him in my house. Like, I have an AVO on him.”

Minutes later Ms Anderson, 21, was stabbed 78 times in her Newcastle unit by Tyrone Thompson who later made a harrowing statement to police.

“It took as many times to stab her till she f***en stopped,” he told police. “That was the end of it.”

Ms Anderson’s death in March 2022 came only 16 days after Thompson, 25, was released on parole for abusing her during their on-and-off relationship from 2019 to 2021.

He was banned from contacting her, but agreed facts tendered to the NSW Supreme Court reveal that did not even last one day.

“As soon as the Offender was released, he called the Deceased; he said that he was coming for her and he loved her,” the facts state.

Ms Anderson posted on social media that day, March 9, 2022, “I’m okayyyy, my ex tyrone just got out of jail from what he did to me and is still being weird and harassing me … he couldn’t last 24 hours.”

Thompson on Tuesday pleaded guilty to Ms Anderson’s murder in her Mayfield apartment just over three years ago.

Documents released by the court reveal the turbulent final weeks before Ms Anderson’s brutal murder, including how she reconnected with Thompson before things quickly deteriorated.

Despite initially resisting Thompson’s attempts to contact her, which included him changing his Facebook profile to a picture of her young son, Ms Anderson spoke with him on March 19 after she broke up with a new boyfriend.

They then spent much of the next six days together until March 25 – the day Ms Anderson died.

She, Thompson and a friend had been drinking and socialising at the unit on Crebert St for several hours when Thompson used Ms Anderson’s phone to text her latest partner.

“I’m bigger than you lol,” he wrote.

When Ms Anderson realised she demanded Thompson to “give me my phone back”.

Later Thompson “began cuddling up and crying” to Ms Anderson telling her “how much he loved her and said she didn’t appreciate the things he did for her”.

Ms Anderson told him to leave her apartment and she texted the friend who was present “don’t leave me alone with him here lol”.

About 9.10pm Thompson began moving knives in the kitchen, pulling a large blade from the drawer and placing it on the bench. “He didn’t say anything of threaten anyone with it at that stage,” the court documents state.

Thompson then followed Ms Anderson into her bedroom and whispered words to the effect of not being “afraid” of the friend being there.

The friend convinced Thompson to go for a walk about 9.30pm but when they parted, the killer went back to the Crebert St unit at 10.10pm.

He used a ladder to climb into the second floor of a sleeping Ms Anderson’s home and began using her phone to text her mother Tabitha Acret.

“I’m with her,” he wrote. “She wants me to talk to you.”

Ms Anderson was woken when the friend returned out of concern, having called her phone only for Thompson to answer.

She made to call the police and the friend told Thompson: “Come on, man, you got to go … you are scaring Mackenzie.”

Ms Anderson called triple-0 at 10.39pm and Thomspon could be heard in the background saying “Hang up, Mackenzie.”

“No. Stay away from me, stay away from me,” she replied, twice telling him to “leave”.

Thompson grabbed the keys from the internal dead lock on the front door and ran from the complex. “Get him … Take my keys off him,” Ms Anderson yelled.

She told the operator Thompson had stolen the keys and “came at me with a knife”, adding he might still have it “because there was two that he had out … only one of them’s here”.

She also text a girlfriend saying Thompson had “came at me with a knife … he’s still a f***ing freak”.

By 10.48pm Thompson returned again and Ms Anderson messaged the friend who had been with them earlier: “Tyronne’s back”.

The friend ran back to the unit and attempted to open the front door – only to find Ms Anderson laying on the ground with Thompson “standing over her and stabbing her”.

“He was not saying anything,” the facts state of Thompson.

Others living in the apartment complex reported hearing a man’s voice crying out “Go on. Stab me again, you dog” and loud thumps coming from the young woman’s home.

Police arrived at 10.53pm – about 14 minutes after the triple-0 call – and saw Thompson who yelled out “Help me! She’s dead!”

Thompson suffered a slash to his right hand and claimed Ms Anderson had been holding a knife, and cut himself when he disarmed her.

“We got into a heated argument … she (had) a f***ing knife … And then I’ve literally grabbed the knife, and I just f***ing stabbed, stabbed stabbed,” he told a police officer.

Thompson had been set to face a four-week trial next week until his guilty plea was entered.

He will now appear before a sentence hearing later this month.
