LA fires: Celebrity homes among 1000s to be impacted in California wildfires

The homes of dozens of stars have been engulfed in the California wildfires, causing thousands to flee. See some of the people who have lost their properties.

More than $125m worth of celebrity-owned property has destroyed after being engulfed by the California wildfires raging across the state, with more damage to be accounted for over the coming days.

About 2000 buildings have been destroyed with 180,000 people forced to evacuate since Tuesday morning local time when the fires broke out.

The presitigious areas of Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Santa Monica, where many Hollywood stars live, are some of the spots that have been hit the hardest.

This includes the mulimillion-dollars homes of celebs like Ben Affleck, Leighton Meester and Billy Crystal, and many others who are still unsure what’s happened to their homes.

Billy Crystal - $14m

The Hollywood star and his wife, Janice, lost their home worth about $14m that they’ve owned for four decades.

In a statement to CNN, Cryster said words couldn’t describe the eniromity of the devastation they were witnessing and experiencing.

“Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away,” he said.

Paris Hilton - $13.54m

The hotel hieress and DJ has sadly lost her $13.54m (US$8.4m) beachfront home in Malibu after fires ravaged through the area.

Hilton and her husband Carter Reum purchased the property in 2021 which was then owned by the late Universal Pictures former chairman Tom Pollock.

The home, built in 1955, had three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a media room.

She posted on Instagram and said she was “heartbroken beyond words” after seeing her home in Malibu “burn to the ground”.

“Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience.” Hilton wrote.

Hilton confirmed that her “family and pets” are all safe, while writing that her “heart and prayers” go out to everyone who has been impacted by the wildfires that are continuing to spread across the Los Angeles area, claiming five lives and destroying thousands of buildings.

Miles Teller - $12.1m

Whiplash and Top Gun star Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh have had their Pacific Palisades home levelled by the devastating fires.

It’s understood the couple purchased their home in 2023 for $12.1m (US$7.5m).

Eugene Levy - $6.2m

The Canadian actor and comedian’s residence has been reduced to rubble, which he reportedly purchased for about $6.2m (US$3.9m) in 2006.

The 76-year-old evacuated his home in the Pacific Palisades on January 7 which was later destroyed.

Sir Anthony Hopkins - $9.68m

The Silence of the Lambs actor Sir Anthony Hopkins’ house in the Pacific Palisades has been burnt, which he purchased for about $10m (US$6m) in 2021.

And this isn’t the first time the star has dealt with fires threatening his home. Back in 2000, Hopkins lost his abode in London to a fire as well.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag - $4.02m

The Hills stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have sadly lost their Los Angeles home, which they shared had burned to the ground.

Pratt posted on his Instagram that the Pacific Palisades mansion was gone and encouraged those in the state to stay safe.

It’s understood the couple purchased the three-bedroom in 2017 — which features a chef’s kitchen, an outdoor balcony and two bathrooms — for $4.02m (US$2.5m), according to the New York Post.

Luckily, the couple and their two sons managed to escape the fire.

Leighton Meester and Adam Brody - $10.49m

The Gossip Girl and The O.C. stars have also lost their $10.49m (US$6.5m) house in the deadly wildfires, according to Realtor.

The pair purchased the five-bedroom, four-bedroom mansion in 2019 which spans about 1800sq m.

Just two days ago, Meester and Brody were spotted at the Golden Globe awards, hours before the wildfires intensified through the Pacific Palisades.

Anna Faris - $7.91m

Actress Anna Faris, who has starred in the Scary Movie films and The House Bunny, has lost her home.

She purchased her Pacific Palisades abode in 2018 for $7.91m (US$4.9m) which has now been destroyed.

Ben Affleck - $33.1m

The famed actor, who has stared in blockbuster films such as Gone Girl and Good Will Hunting, has also reportedly fled his $33.1m (US$20.5m) house.

The New York Post revealed the 52-year old purchased the mansion located Los Angeles’ suburb Brentwood in July last year, at the time he and Jennifer Lopez were finalising the sale of their New York City penthouse amid their separation.

He evacuated the Brentwood estate — which features five bedrooms, a media room and a guest house — to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s house nearby with their three children.

The new owner of the Pacific Palisades home where Matthew Perry died in October 2023 has shared her relief at learning that the house survived the deadly wildfires that have ripped through the tony enclave of Los Angeles.

The home, where Perry died in October 2023 was bought just three months ago by a real estate developer for $13.7m (US$8.55m), Realtor reports.

The Friends star, who played Chandler Bing, died aged 54 after buying the residence months prior for about $8m (US$5m).

Movie producer and real estate developer Anita Verma-Lallian, who purchased the abode told Realtor on Firday that the home has miraculously survived the devastating blaze — sustaining only minimal damage in the backyard — while heaping praise on her “amazing” community for stepping in to help preserve the property.

“One of our friends was able to get to the house, and they’ve confirmed that our house is okay,” she shared with Realtor.

“There were a couple of small fires in the backyard that they were able to put water on and contain, and we’re just hoping that they stay contained. But as of now, our house is okay.”

The actor is among a long list of celebrities who have had their homes engulfed by flames.
