Greg Hywood, who left Fairfax after eight years in the top job when the publisher merged with Channel Nine in 2018, bought the three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment at 42/18 College St, Darlinghurst in the prized north-west corner of Sydney’s Tower of Power, The Residence, two years before in 2016.
He hasn’t needed to do any renos since snapping it up for $4.1m from Bank of Queensland chairman and ex Nine director Patrick Allaway and his wife, Elizabeth.

Hywood, who is a Walkley Award winning journalist and now the chairman of Free TV Australia, has the apartment listed with Maclay Longhurst of Sotheby’s with a $6.25m guide in an expressions of interest campaign.
“It’s in the most sought-after corner of the building,” Longhurst said.
The 218 sqm pad features heated limestone floors, a designer gas fireplace, ducted air-con and level lift access to two car spaces in the block, which has 24-hour concierge, pool, spa, steam room, residents’ lounge and wine storeroom.

It’s understood Hywood is returning to his hometown of Melbourne.
He reportedly remains “best of friends” with his ex-wife, the writer and journalist Kate Legge, despite her tell-all memoir about his infidelity last year, called Infidelity and Other Affairs.
They’d separated on the eve of their 30th wedding anniversary.
Goodrem’s apartment is on the seventh floor, below Hywood’s. She bought her two-bedroom, two-bathroom 180sqm abode for $4,825,000 in 2019.
