Fashion family sells designer clifftop mansion
It has a clifftop outdoor shower, ocean views from the gym and it was all built from one of Australia's favourite household names. The co-founders of Katies and Millers are selling their family home in Dover Heights.
The clifftop designer mansion that household fashion labels Katies and Millers built has just hit the market with price expectations of more than $5.5 million.
With ocean views, a 20m lap pool, outdoor shower and gym over looking the dramatice cliff face, and its Feng Shui-friendly design, the labour of love Dover Heights home belongs to Ian and Sara Miller, co-founders of the Specialty Fashion Group which announced a 2012/13 financial year profit of $12.97 million.
The successful clothing company, whose brands include Millers, Katies, Crossroads, Autograph and City Chic, has more than 880 stores across Australia and New Zealand.
The couple's Douglas Pde property sits on the edge of the prestige suburb's dramatic cliff face, has five-bedrooms, iPhone and iPad automation, a solar-heated infinity pool and 180-degree ocean views.
Designed by architect Brian Meyerson, work began on the Millers' house in 2001, but the couple and their three children didn't move in until 2003.
Mr Meyerson said he was given very specific criteria when designing the fashion family's home.
"Ian's a car enthusiast and Sara's a fitness fanatic," he says. "Apart from all the other things a luxury home needs these things, for the Millers, are critical."
"Living in this house has been wonderful," Mr Miller said.
"Total privacy and serenity were what we wanted when we bought the property. Each day is unique. The moods of the ocean, the wonderful sun rises, the passing of ships, dolphins and whales give the home a real excitement. There is always a cooling breeze, yet the living area is bathed in sunlight," Mr Miller said.
"The lap pool is gorgeous," Mrs Miller said. "It feels like you are swimming beside the ocean."
The Millers said they have entertained up to 80 people at the house.
The glamorous Dover Heights property goes to auction on November 6 through BHR Estate Agents and Sotheby's International Realty.
