Kylie Minogue buys $8m home in Melbourne

The pop princess snapped up the Melbourne house for $8 million after it was last sold back in 2003 for just $1.5 million.

Kylie Minogue has forked out $8 million for a four-bedroom house in Melbourne as she returns to base herself in Australia after three decades overseas.

The singer has been living in England for the past 30 years, but announced in October last year that she was leaving London, and is understood to have arrived in Australia at the end of January, according to the Herald Sun.

She secured the property in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs at the end of last year via private negotiations.

The house is a short drive from the city and includes an alfresco dining area with outdoor kitchen and fireplace.

It also has an eight-car garage, wine cellar, vegetable garden and three bathrooms.

The luxurious home offers a private setting as it’s located on a big block set back from the road.

The property was last sold in 2003 for $1.5 million and will ensure Minogue is close to her parents in Canterbury and her sister Dannii, who lives in Hawthorn East.

The 53-year-old was spotted by fans in the Mornington Peninsula last week.

In an interview with the BBC last year, she admitted she was surprised by the reaction to the news she would make Australia her base but the pandemic “gave her a lot of time to think about the future.”

“I have spent a lot of time with my family this year (2021) in Australia and it felt really good,” she said at the time.

“I’ve had friends call me, my friend at my local restaurant was saying: ‘Kylie, what do you mean? You can’t go’.“I said: ‘I’m not really going. I’ve lived here (London) for 30 years, I’m always going to be back.”

Minogue has built an impressive property portfolio across Australia and the UK.

In February 2021, she sold the Melbourne home she’s owned for more than 30 years in an eye-watering seven-figure deal.

Her Armadale cottage, southeast of the CBD, was purchased for $1.7 million. It’s a home she acquired in 1990 when she was 22 for just $185,000 after finishing up on Neighbours and launching her singing career.

She previously owned a 20ha hideaway on the secluded French Island in Victoria with her siblings, which they paid $400,000 before selling it for $1 million in 2009.

The Spinning Around singer has said she would still divide her time between Australia and the UK.

Minogue’s boyfriend, Paul Solomons, whom she has been with since 2018, quit his high-powered job as creative director of GQ magazine last year.

Her UK base is a luxury development and her neighbours include fellow ex-Neighbours star Holly Valance and her billionaire hubby Nick Candy.
