Taylor Swift’s ‘astronomical’ Eras Tour stat

Taylor Swift has entered her billionaire era, and a mind-blowing statistic reveals just how much daylight there is between her and all other musicians, thanks to her record-breaking Eras Tour.
Bloomberg reported the singer achieved billionaire status late last year with an estimated net worth of $US1.1 billion ($A1.7 billion).
The success of the Eras Tour, which hit Melbourne last weekend and is coming to Sydney with four shows this Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights, is a key factor in Swift’s rising fortune.
In December last year, touring industry magazine Pollster reported that Eras became the first tour ever to gross over $US1 billion ($A1.5 billion) from the 60 concerts she performed between November 2022 and November 2023.
That’s approximately $US17 million ($A26 million) per show.
A gross figure refers to the amount raised purely from ticket sales, before costs of staging the concerts are subtracted.
Her nearest competition in that period was from Beyonce’s Renaissance tour, which barely grossed half of what Swift did, hitting $US580 million ($A889 million) in ticket sales.
The previous touring record for the highest grossing tour was held by Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which raked in $US939 million ($A1.4 billion) over a five-year period.
Perhaps even more impressive is that Swift’s average ticket price wasn’t the highest of all concert tours in 2023.
In fact, of the top 20 tours on the 2023 Worldwide Tours chart, Eras ticket prices ranked the fifth highest.
Instead, it is the sheer number of ticket sales that has taken her to the top as her shows are being held at some of the biggest venues in the world – as witnessed last weekend when 96,000 Swifties packed the MCG on three consecutive nights.
Never in her wildest dreams would a young girl who grew up on a Christmas tree farm have imaged she could command such a staggering global audience.
And Taylor is not done yet. In fact, she’s just getting started.
With a full year of touring ahead, before the Eras Tour finally winds up in Canada this December, Pollstar estimates it “has the possibility of setting an even more astronomical record” by grossing $US2.17 billion ($A3.33 billion).
That figure is higher than the gross domestic product of 17 small nations and one that will make Eras the most successful concert tour of all time – by a very long margin.
