Half of Australians expected to enter draw for $200m Powerball jackpot

The biggest prize ever offered by an Australian lottery game is sure to have Aussies scrambling to grab a ticket in the $200m draw.

Powerball jackpots to record $200m

A whopping $200m will be up for grabs in Thursday’s Powerball after nobody won last week’s draw.

Last week’s huge sum of $150m failed to draw a division one winner, but more than five million prizes worth more than $103m were won in divisions two to nine.

The upcoming record jackpot is the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game in history.

As many as half of all Australian adults are anticipated to enter the draw, meaning millions are vying to become the nation’s next multi-millionaire.

And Thursday is the day sales peak, with many Aussies grabbing last-minute tickets.

The peak of sales for last week’s $150m Powerball draw was at 6.15pm on the day of the draw when 7445 tickets were sold in a single minute.

The Lott spokesman Anna Hobdell said delivering the news of a division one win was often awash with emotion.

“Behind every winning lottery call, there’s a person on the other end of the line with a story to tell,” Ms Hobdell said.

“It’s a privilege to be part of these life-changing moments that can redefine someone’s life.

“From the heart-pounding moment of anticipation to the overwhelming joy that erupts when the division one news truly sinks in, it’s an emotional journey like no other.

“Securing a significant lottery win frequently evokes genuine tears of joy, astonished gasps, or even momentary stunned silence.

“Winning a slice of the record-breaking $200m Powerball prize would be a phone call to remember for eternity and would undoubtedly change your life for many decades to come.”
