The Crown season 3: Everything you need to know
WITH production already underway and key cast decisions released, fans all over the world are getting pretty amped for the new season of The Crown.
THE Crown season three is currently in production — and fans are getting pretty excited about what’s to come on the hit Netflix series.
Broadchurch star Olivia Colman is stepping into the role of Queen Elizabeth II, Outlander alum Tobias Menzies is the new Prince Philip, and literal icon Helena Bonham Carter will be slinking her way through the palaces of England as Princess Margaret.
Season three of The Crown will follow the royal family into the tumultuous 1970s — an era of change and drama for everyone in the Windsor clan.
Here’s everything we know about The Crown season three so far.
When will season three be released?
You’re going to have to be patient for season three of The Crown. Netflix confirmed in May that it won’t debut until sometime in 2019.

When does season three of The Crown take place?
Since Netflix announced that Jason Watkins will be joining the cast as Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson, it’s been all but confirmed that the new season will cover Wilson’s years in office: 1964-1970 and 1974-1976. Politically, it was a time of economic strife and cultural upheaval.
Personally, things were also pretty juicy for the royals. This was the era in which Princess Margaret’s marriage to Lord Snowdon broke down (thanks in part to an affair she had with a younger man, Roddy Llewellyn), Prince Charles met a young Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Princess Anne kept her cool during a dangerous kidnapping attempt.
While we don’t know for certain which historical events will make it into future episodes, The Crown’s producer, Suzanne Mackie, has teased that we’ll see some Charles and Camilla drama.

Will Princess Diana be on season three of The Crown?
As early as late 2016, The Crown’s creator Peter Morgan said that season three would introduce a young Princess Diana, with the Charles/Diana saga playing out over the fourth and fifth seasons of the show. However, there’s been some suggestion that Diana has been pushed to season four.
It’s maybe also worth noting that there’s a British tabloid rumour that Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner has been tapped to play Lady Di.
Could it be true? Maybe. Might it all be a crazy rumour? Totally. Just be aware, is all.

Who is joining The Crown season three cast?
Netflix has — so far — only confirmed a handful of new cast members:
— Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II
— Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip
— Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret
— Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones, Lord Snowdon
— Jason Watkins as Harold Wilson
— Erin Doherty as Princess Anne
There is a LOT of speculation that Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country, The Durrells in Corfu) is going to be Prince Charles, but Netflix hasn’t confirmed or denied this. We also don’t have word on who will play Camilla Parker-Bowles or Captain Mark Phillips.
