Matt Doran’s surprise career move revealed after Channel 7 exit

Less than two months after he left his position at Channel 7, the TV presenter’s surprising new career move has been revealed.

Matt Doran announces he is leaving Weekend Sunrise

Former Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran is officially ditching Australia for a new life on the other side of the world.

Doran’s wife, Kendall Bora, reportedly informed Nine staff on Tuesday that she and her husband are relocating to the US so she can take on the role of bureau chief.

“Kendall and Matt have been looking forward to starting a new chapter in their lives together,’ a TV source told Mail Online.

“The was a lot of drama surrounding the end of his time at Seven and they’re really looking forward to the chance to start afresh.”

Confirming the news, Fiona Dear, Nine’s director of news and current affairs, said: “Kendall has had a stellar run at Today Show as EP and has spearheaded a number of transformative projects, including the streamlining of the entire Today Show team. I’m excited about what she can achieve as head of Nine’s famed US bureau.”

Sunrise interview descends into chaos: ‘I’m going to punch you’

The news comes after Doran shared an emotional on-air statement in November. The Seven star revealed he had made the hard decision to depart his role to focus on his family and other opportunities.

“Before we go today, a bit of breaking news from the Doran household,” he said at the conclusion of Sunday’s edition of the show with co-host Monique Wright.

“I want to share with you a decision I’ve made, with my beautiful wife Kendall — and of course in earnest consultation with our beloved Italian greyhound Murphy — and that is, after five years at Weekend Sunrise, I will be finishing up at the end of the year.”

Doran said that he “agonised over” his decision because “this is one of the best jobs on earth”, but ultimately it’s “the right time for our little family”.

“It is my unshakeable belief that this role – specifically, being entrusted with the telling of people’s most intimate, most personal stories – is one of the more privileged positions on the planet,” he continued.

“And actually, storytelling is probably at the heart of this decision – finding ways to tell stories that break the mould. I came to the Seven Network eight years ago with a background in crime and documentaries, and I’m being pulled back in that direction again now.”

Doran joined Seven in 2017 as a correspondent for Sunday Night. Two years later, he took the reins as co-host of Weekend Sunrise alongside Wright.

His time at the network came with its ups and downs, including his infamous trainwreck interview with pop star Adele where he admitted he had failed to listen to her new album.
