‘What’s your career?’ Sara and Shaynna’s Block showdown

SARA was filled with ‘dread’ before her one-on-one meeting with Block judge Shaynna Blaze. It doesn’t take long for things to get tense between the pair.

CONTROVERSIAL Block contestant Sara has gone head to head with judge and design industry veteran Shaynna Blaze, making for awkward scenes in tonight’s episode of the home reno show.

Sara and husband Hayden were offered a design mentoring session with Blaze after their room placed last with the judges for the third week in a row — an offer they begrudgingly accepted before Sara threw perhaps the biggest tantrum in Block history.

“There’s only so much as a human — any human — you’d be able to take,” Sara said of their negative feedback.

Before their session with Blaze, Sara said she was filled with “dread. Dread, dread, dread, dread, dread” at the meeting ahead.

They start off friendly enough:

Shaynna explains that together, they’ll walk through the rooms judged so far, and she’ll offer detailed, constructive feedback about why some elements haven’t worked as well as hoped. Then she’ll provide advice about where to go from here — including tips on how to ace this week’s Master Bedroom challenge.

It’s an invaluable advantage that’s made Hayden and Sara the envy of the other teams.

As Shaynna and Sara walk through the rooms, Shaynna gives as much feedback as she can — but Sara seems less than receptive:

Sara doesn’t exactly seem open to critique.

With Hayden joining them, they enter the couple’s grand folly: that infamous $75,000, last-placing bathroom. It’s at this point Shaynna’s patience with the couple runs out.

“But, I guess it’s all open for interpretation …” Hayden tells the design guru after one bit of feedback, leading to this tense exchange.

Shaynna: “What’s your career?”

Hayden: “Project manager in construction.”

Shaynna: “Right. And yours?”

Sara: “Flight attendant.”

Shaynna: “So how are you meant to know what I’ve done for 30 years? Just putting it out there. That’s why I’m here.”

It's a one-on-one meeting the other teams would’ve killed for.

Lastly, Shaynna sits down with the couple and gives them a wealth of advice about designing their master bedroom — wall colourings, bedside tables, the lot.

Sara seems less than grateful.

“It was … good advice. Whether or not she likes it is a whole other kettle of fish. I just can’t be bothered with high hopes again,” she shrugs.

Speaking to the camera, Blaze worries her advice fell on deaf ears.

“I actually don’t know if they really listened. They think they’ve got the direction absolutely perfect.”

Viewers took to Twitter to vent their frustration over Sara’s reaction, with several arguing that her attitude proved she didn’t deserve the extra time with Shaynna.
