The Bachelor Australia: Abbie ‘really upset’ by viral clip
Bachelor contestant Abbie has revealed how it felt to be mocked around the world for her “dumb” Gemini comment to Matt Agnew.
The Bachelor contestant whose “dumb” comment to Matt Agnew went viral has spoken out about the embarrassing clip, saying she was “really upset” when she saw it being heavily promoted by Network Ten.
A month ago, Ten released a clip from the reality TV program that showed Abbie, a 23-year-old from Queensland, meeting the Bachelor for the first time.
“What do you do?” she asked him.
“I’m an astrophysicist,” he replied.
“OK, I’m a Gemini,” she said.

The cringe-worthy promo went viral on Twitter, with people around the world poking fun at Abbie’s not-so-bright response. One social media user even labelled the clip “one of the greatest moments in television history”.
Still laughing at that Bachelor ad where the girl asks the bachelor guy what he does and he says he's an astrophysicist, and she goes: "Oh cool, I'm a Gemini." Can't tell if she's good at dad jokes or daft as a brush.

In a series of interviews yesterday to promote the show’s first episode, Matt stuck up for Abbie and insisted she was joking when she made the Gemini comment.
“She’s very clever, very witty and loved to wind me up,” Matt told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O.
“Oh, so she was joking?” Kyle asked.
“Yeah. She knew how to wind me up, and you can see based on my reaction it landed particularly well on me, and she got the desired effect, I think,” the reality star said.
But some were still sceptical.
Very fkn sweet that Astro Bachie was telling all the press today that Abbie is actually really smart and when she said âIâm a Geminiâ she was taking the piss because SHE CLEARLY WASNâT and he is too pure for this world trying to protect her. #TheBachelorAU

So to clarify once and for all if Abbie was joking or not, we gave the Gemini a call and asked her to set the record straight.
“It was absolutely a joke,” she told news.com.au.
“Obviously, we don’t know who Matt is when we go in,” Abbie explained. “Before going on I was like, ‘What’s a go-to line that would be funny to ask? A ridiculous question?’ I went, ‘I’ll just ask him what his star sign is’.
“As soon as Matt said he was an astrophysicist I was like, ‘Oh god, this will be funny because it’s clearly not that’.
“It was serendipitous I guess,” she said.
Abbie told news.com.au that she and Matt had “similar senses of humour” and added, “He absolutely understood that it was a joke.”
“Obviously, a lot more happened off camera, and Matt and I had a really good laugh about it at the time,” she said.
The property analyst told news.com.au she wasn’t laughing, though, when her “joke” went viral, with people assuming she was “dumb”.
“Oh my god, at first I was absolutely mortified, and I was really upset,” she said about the promo.
“As time went on, I think people started to realise it was a joke. There were more and more comments flooding in (on social media) saying, ‘I think she’s kidding. I don’t think she’s that dumb. She’s a property analyst, so she can’t be stupid’.
“If I had actually mistaken his job for an astrologer then I would have been more embarrassed, but I know what happened, Matt knows what happened, the crew knows what happened, so it’s all good.”
The Bachelor Australia continues tonight at 7.30pm on Ten
