The Bachelor Australia: Matt Agnew reveals the truth about contestant’s ‘dumb’ comment
A jaw-droppingly “dumb” comment one of the Bach contestants made to Matt Agnew went viral around the world. But not all is as it seemed.
Matt Agnew has dropped a bombshell about that Bachelor Australia promo that went viral around the world.
A month ago, Network Ten released a clip from the upcoming series of the reality show which showed Agnew’s first meeting with Abbie, one of the 28 women vying for his affection.
“What do you do?” the bubbly blonde asks him.
“I’m an astrophysicist,” he replies.
“OK, I’m a Gemini,” she says.
Agnew appears momentarily lost for words before for he graciously tells her he’s a Leo.
The cringe-worthy promo went viral on Twitter where it racked up hundreds of thousands of views.
One person labelled the clip “one of the greatest moments in television history” and people around the world poked fun at Abbie’s not-so-bright response.

I doubt I will find anything funnier than the current Australian Bachelor who says "I'm an astrophysicist" and one of the girls responds "Okaayy...I'm a gemini" ðð

This happened without a trace of irony:
Bachelor: Iâm an astrophysicist and you?
Blonde: Iâm a Gemini.
The look on his face was priceless.
Hasnât that âIâm a Geminiâ girl on the Bachelor ad suffered enough? Re edit the promo for her sake. Please. #MasterChefAU

lady - so what do you do?
bachelor - iâm an astrophysicist
lady - okay, iâm a gemini
me in my head - haha itâs so funny because she thinks he does horoscopes, wait what does an astrophysicist actually do....
*has to google astrophysicist*
Still laughing at that Bachelor ad where the girl asks the bachelor guy what he does and he says he's an astrophysicist, and she goes: "Oh cool, I'm a Gemini." Can't tell if she's good at dad jokes or daft as a brush.

Abbie, a 23-year-old property analyst from Queensland, has been ridiculed around the world since the promo was released, but it now appears she was in on the joke.
This morning Agnew spoke to KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O and the hosts congratulated him on his polite response to Abbie’s “dumb” comment.
“This is where I knew you were a gentleman and you had respect for women,” Sandilands said to the Bachelor.
“You took a beat and instead of laughing and saying, ‘Gee, you’re dumb,’ you went, ‘I’m a Leo’ … I thought that was very tastefully answered.”
And that’s when Agnew dropped the bombshell.
“That was Abbie. She’s very, very, clever, very witty, and loved to wind me up,” Agnew said.
“Oh, so she was joking?” a shocked Sandilands replied.
“Yeah. She knew how to wind me up and you can see based on my reaction it landed particularly well on me and she got the desired effect I think,” the reality star said.
So there you have it, Abbie played us all and gained worldwide notoriety in the process. Give the woman a round of applause.
For those of you who aren’t entirely sure what an astrophysicist does, Agnew was more than happy to explain during his KIIS FM interview.
“It’s about researching and understanding how space works and how we fit into the universe,” the 32-year-old said.
“The research that I’m involved in is trying to figure out where we should look to find another planet like Earth. I think there’s a handful of places even within our own solar system where it looks like all the ingredients for life are there, so I think there’s a chance that in the next half century that we’ll find evidence of that.”
Agnew put his search for another planet like Earth on hold to find love on The Bachelor, and he’s adamant that he was successful and is still in a relationship with one of the contestants.
