Scott Cam tries to catch Sharon and Ankur out on wine challenge lie

Block couple Sharon and Ankur have found themselves in Scotty Cam’s bad books after dodging the truth about their $50k challenge win this week.

New cheating scandal rocks The Block

Block couple Sharon and Ankur aren’t doing themselves any favours this week.

The controversial duo have landed themselves in Scotty’s bad books for fibbing about their $50k wine challenge win on Tuesday night, insisting they won by pure skill, and not because they used their phones for answers.

Tuesday’s episode saw the teams tasked to recreate a wine from Levantine Hill winery, Samantha’s Paddock Mélange Traditionnel, by tasting and mixing several wines together.

Sharon and Ankur took out the prize — $50,000 of wine to take back to The Block and increase the value of their home — after they decided to Google the tasting notes unbeknown to the other teams.

The pair have declared they didn’t cheat given there were no rules stipulating they couldn’t look the wine up, however, on the day of the challenge, the couple were seen repeatedly lying to their fellow contestants, and on Wednesday, their fibs continues when pressed by Scott Cam.

As pointed out by the host himself, if they knew they didn’t cheat, what would they have to hide?

Quizzing the pair on the win during a site visit, Scotty and Shelley Craft marvelled over how similar their wine was to the real deal.

“Paul yesterday said ti was virtually Samantha’s Paddock, it was actually, like exact,” Scotty began.

“He was amazing by how close you got, which led us to the idea that maybe, you knew how to make it,” echoed Shelley.

Ankur was quick to respond: “No, so we basically drank a lot of that in Covid. The 2015 one is what we smashed. It’s one of my favourite wines.”

He added: “Shaz’s dad is a wine grower and makes his own wine,” as Sharon nodded in agreeance beside him.

“So you’ve got an amazing nose?” Shelley probed as Ankur shrugged and Sharon continued to smile.

“As soon as they said it’s a Samantha’s Paddock challenge I was like ‘Oh well I think we’re in for a pretty big shot here’ so it was lucky,” he said as Scotty repeated how “amazed” he was by their apparent skill.

“I’m still amazed at the fact that you got that wine absolutely spot on!,” he said, jokingly imploring them to “give up their day jobs and become winemakers”.

Debriefing on the visit, Scott said: “I’m actually alright with them looking up the recipe … But now …

“You know how I feel about people lying to me … Straight to the face!”

In an effort to catch them out on their lie, Scotty organised a wine tasting at a dinner held at his property, with Ankur quickly coming undone by incorrectly guessing that a glass of pinot noir was a glass of rose.

“I knew it was a pinot and I said it was rose because I had a VB at Tommy’s place before I had to come here, so my palate was smashed,” he later argued to producers.

Scotty wasn’t the only person disappointed with Sharon and Ankur in Wednesday’s episode, with their builder, Liam, biting his tongue when the couple decided to collect a door together despite being behind in their build, leaving him in charge.

“I needed Anks to come with me because it’s a big door it’s 140 years old. Anks doesn’t feel comfortable with me having the big drive,” Sharon told producers, as Ankur assured producers their team had things under control.

On dropping by House 3, Foreman Dan wasn’t happy.

“Why you need two people to go pick that up is beyond me. They’re obviously going somewhere to pick it up I’m sure there are people there that can load it on to a van,” he said, adding if they were “serious about finishing” on time, they’d be buckling down.

Speaking to producers, he added: “I think Liam thinks the same things as me, he’s just not expressing it.”

“I’m not happy with how this week’s unfolded … we are massively, massively under the pump”

Sharon and Ankur have clashed with Liam in the past, with a fiery text exchange aired on Monday’s episode.
