Scott Cam has revealed new details about Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull’s abrupt exit from The Block, explaining why the move left him so offended.

Scott Cam has revealed there’s much more to the story of Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull sensationally leaving The Block after just two days on the Gisborne set.

The longtime host of the competition has been busy sledging the pair for throwing in the towel 48 hours in, calling it “p*ss poor” and “unAustralian”, amid reports the duo flew to Adelaide to look after Joel’s mother after a nasty fall.

Given the circumstances, many have been wondering why Scotty has hit out so passionately against the influencer and her former AFL star husband, with the conversation behind their reason for leaving a source of wide speculation.

Now, Scotty has revealed there wasn’t one at all.

Scott Cam has opened up about the season’s biggest scandal.

Speaking to news.com.au in the lead up to the Tree Change season premiere next week, the Channel 9 personality revealed the couple upped sticks in the middle of the night with “no explanation”.

“They didn’t give us a reason why they were leaving. They never mentioned anything to us about visiting their sick mother,” Scott said.

“In fact, we flew them to Adelaide before The Block started for a week, and put them up in a hotel so they could see (Joel’s mother), and they came back and said everything’s fine.”

According to Scotty, the cast and crew were stunned when Joel and Elle disappeared.

“They never spoke to us, they just left in the middle of the night,” he said, adding: “I still don’t know why they left. They never mentioned their sick mother in the 48 hours before they left, or after they left. The executive producer spoke to them (after they left) and they didn’t mention their sick mother then either.”

He explained that given “family comes first” on The Block, had Joel and Elle addressed their need to leave for personal reasons, production would have been temporarily shut down for them to do so.

“As we’ve done in the past, we shut the whole show down for a sick family. If they’d mentioned their sick mother, of course we would have allowed them to go home. I certainly wouldn’t be holding someone back from seeing their sick mother, that’s outrageous.”

In April, The Daily Telegraph reported Joel and Elle pulled out of the show after Joel’s mum suffered a nasty fall.

The beauty blogger and former GWS Giants player travelled to Adelaide, where Joel’s mum Trish was receiving treatment for possible bleeding of the brain, a broken coccyx and a fractured wrist.

Elle even posted an Instagram story at Melbourne Airport at the time, writing: “Wherever you are in the world. Whatever you are doing. Family always comes first”.

In June, Scotty came out swinging against the pair during an interview withTV Tonight

“45,000 people applied to be on The Block and win life-changing money. These guys got on and they just couldn’t handle the pace after 48 hours … Which to me is a bit unAustralian! Have a go! It’s p*ss poor,” he said.

He followed up on the harsh comments a few days later on The Block site, telling journalists: “Obviously I wish Joel and Elle success in the future. It’s just that they created a fair bit of chaos for us here in the first 48 hours.

“The show … we put a lot of time and money into the start of our show and then we had to rejig the whole thing … the whole promos had to be re-shot.

“It just was a lot of angst on our part when they just departed the way they did.

“When I say those words, that’s just Scott Cam speaking from the heart.”

Joel and Elle’s sudden exit isn’t the only drama to have engulfed the season before it’s even aired.

Last month, it was revealed the program was facing a critical tradie shortage as widespread instability continues to plague the construction industry.

In response, the program’s building company, Nine in Six, posted an urgent social media plea for extra hands.

“We desperately need help completing the current series of The Block, Tree Change. Carpenters, Cladding Crews, Skilled labourers, Trade Assistants,” the company’s official account wrote.

“Wages, Casual, Subbies we won’t discriminate. Immediate start, 5 Weeks to go Location Gisborne Victoria. Send us a message if you’re keen.”

Speaking to news.com.au, Scotty said the call-out ended up saving the show.

“We always knew there were going to be supply chain and tradie issues,” he admitted.

“But towards the end we got desperate, so we put that call out and we got a couple of young carpentry teams. Terrific blokes.”

Adding that he “really enjoyed” having photos with the last-minute tradies, he added: “They were really excited to be there because they came up from Geelong and they just worked so hard.”

The Block Tree Change premieres Sunday, August 7 at 7pm on Channel 9
