Scott Cam says ripping into Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull was just ‘me being me’

Days after slamming Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull for quitting The Block amid a family emergency, Scott Cam reveals the reason behind his outburst.

The Block issues ‘desperate’ plea for tradies amid new season crisis

Days after issuing a stunning sledge at Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull for throwing in the towel 48 hours into filming The Block amid a family emergency, host Scott Cam has revealed why he came down so hard on them.

Last week, Cam labelled the couple’s last-minute dash “un-Australian” and “piss-poor”, given it left the show two contestants down.

But while the Channel 9 host acknowledged his criticism was scathing, he doubled down on the critique, declaring the way he spoke about the pair just was just “me being me”.

Speaking to media on Friday, he said: “Obviously I wish Joel and Elle success in the future. It’s just that they created a fair bit of chaos for us here in the first 48 hours.

“The show … we put a lot of time and money into the start of our show and then we had to rejig the whole thing … the whole promos had to be re-shot.

“It just was a lot of angst on our part when they just departed the way they did.

“When I say those words, that’s just Scott Cam speaking from the heart.”

Cam ripped into influencer Elle Ferguson and her footy star fiance for quitting the upcoming Tree Change season last Tuesday, not mincing words when asked about their abrupt exit in an interview with TV Tonight.

“We had a 48 hour challenge to choose the house that you get and they scarpered after 48 hours. It’s something that’s never happened before,” Cam told the publication.

Despite the pair telling Instagram followers they had left due to Patfull’s mother suffering a nasty fall in Adelaide, Cam suggested they actually couldn’t handle the gruelling workload when they bailed after the opening challenge.

“45,000 people applied to be on The Block and win life-changing money. These guys got on and they just couldn’t handle the pace after 48 hours … Which to me is a bit unAustralian! Have a go! It’s p*ss poor,” he said.

At the time of their departure, it was reported Patfull’s mother, Trish, fractured her neck after a nasty fall.

Patfull, 37, formerly of the GWS Giants, and Ferguson, 36, travelled immediately from production in Melbourne to Adelaide, with Ferguson posting to fans: “Family always comes first.”

“Wherever you are in the world. Whatever you are doing. Family always comes first,” she posted to her stories with an image of a packed baggage trolley at Melbourne airport.
