Scott Cam slams influencers Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull for quitting The Block

The Block host has torn into influencer Elle Ferguson and her footy star fiance for quitting the show after just “48 hours”, calling their efforts “p*ss poor.”

Scott Cam has slammed two of the biggest names from The Block who quit the renovation show just “48 hours” into filming.

The 59-year-old Gold Logie winner, who has helmed the Channel 9 show since 2010, called out fashion influencer Elle Ferguson and her retired AFL star fiance Joel Patfull who sensationally left the show during the first week of production in April.

Cam didn’t mince his words when asked about their abrupt exit in an interview with TV Tonight, suggesting they couldn’t handle the gruelling workload when they bailed after the opening challenge.

“We had a 48 hour challenge to choose the house that you get and they scarpered after 48 hours. It’s something that’s never happened before,” Cam told the publication.

He added: “45,000 people applied to be on The Block and win life-changing money. These guys got on and they just couldn’t handle the pace after 48 hours … Which to me is a bit unAustralian! Have a go! It’s p*ss poor.”

news.com.au has contacted Ferguson’s management for comment.

While Ferguson and Patfull are yet to officially comment on why they left, The Daily Telegraph reported at the time that Patfull’s mother, Trish, fractured her neck after a nasty fall.

Patfull, 37, formerly of the GWS Giants, and Ferguson, 36, travelled immediately from production in Melbourne to Adelaide, where Trish was receiving treatment for possible bleeding of the brain, a broken coccyx and a fractured wrist.

Ferguson took to social media with a telling post about the sudden change of plans, declaring: “Family always comes first.”

“Wherever you are in the world. Whatever you are doing. Family always comes first,” she posted to her stories with an image of a packed baggage trolley at Melbourne airport.

Power couple Ferguson and Patfull were enlisted to join The Block cast as the highest-profile contestants along with former Neighbours star Sharon Johal and her husband Ankur Dogra.

Ferguson boasts 680,000 followers on Instagram, and has her own range of self-tan, Elle Effect.

Meanwhile, Patfull, who retired from AFL in 2016, works as head of operations for Elle Effect and has an athleisure range, Lost Athletes.

The couple were engaged in 2017.

Their exit marked the first snag The Block has hit since filming started back in April.

Earlier this month it emerged the show was facing a critical tradie shortage, with the program’s building company posting an urgent social media plea for immediate applications to save the show.

Nine in Six, the construction company behind the upcoming Tree Change season, which is based in Gisborne, Victoria, “desperately needs help to complete the series,” it posted on Instagram June 8.

“We desperately need help completing the current series of The Block, Tree Change. Carpenters, Cladding Crews, Skilled labourers, Trade Assistants,” the company’s official account wrote.

“Wages, Casual, Subbies we won’t discriminate. Immediate start, 5 Weeks to go Location Gisborne Victoria. Send us a message if you’re keen.”

The Block executive producer Julian Cress also said building materials have been “incredibly hard to come by” for the worksite, blaming a “pandemic hangover” for the multiple issues plaguing the popular home renovation series.
