New footage shows the moment a furious Scott Cam learns one Block team quit on day two - then breaks the news to the other contestants.

The Block host Scott Cam is shown reeling from the news one of this year’s couples quit the show without saying goodbye, in a teaser clip released ahead of Sunday’s season premiere.

Cam hasn’t held back from publicly criticising influencer couple Joel Patfull and Elle Ferguson, who made headlines when they abruptly quit the hit reno show just days into the new season.

And viewers have now been given a glimpse of an incredulous Cam being told by The Block’s production team that the show was suddenly two contestants down.

“Why would you leave after two days?” Cam is seen asking the crew.

He is then shown breaking the news to the remaining contestants, telling them this has “never happened in the history” of the show.

“I am in total shock. They didn’t say goodbye, they didn’t say thanks for having us – they just left,” he said.

When news first broke that the couple had left The Block after only two days, it was reported that they had flown to Adelaide to look after Joel’s mother following a nasty fall.

Given this, some have been surprised at Cam’s willingness to publicly sledge the pair, labelling their decision “p*ss poor” and “unAustralian.”

But in a new interview with news.com.au this week, The Block host gave some context for his unhappy reaction, questioning why Joel and Elle really abandoned the show.

“They didn’t give us a reason why they were leaving. They never mentioned anything to us about visiting their sick mother,” he explained.

“In fact, we flew them to Adelaide before The Block started for a week, and put them up in a hotel so they could see (Joel’s mother), and they came back and said everything’s fine.”

According to Cam, the cast and crew were left stunned when Joel and Elle disappeared.

“They never spoke to us, they just left in the middle of the night,” he said, adding: “I still don’t know why they left.

“They never mentioned their sick mother in the 48 hours before they left, or after they left. The executive producer spoke to them (after they left) and they didn’t mention their sick mother then either.”

He also claimed that given “family comes first” on The Block, had Joel and Elle addressed their need to leave for personal reasons, production would have been temporarily shut down for them to do so.

“As we’ve done in the past, we shut the whole show down for a sick family. If they’d mentioned their sick mother, of course we would have allowed them to go home. I certainly wouldn’t be holding someone back from seeing their sick mother, that’s outrageous.”
