MasterChef contestant Pete Campbell forgets key ingredient in elimination cook

Tonight’s intense MasterChef elimination will see one contestant crack under the pressure – forgetting a key ingredient in his recipe.

Impressive home cook Pete Campbell is rocked by a missed ingredient in tonight’s elimination challenge, looking visibly shaken by the prospect of having to start over.

The 36-year-old tattoo artist from NSW will fight for his place in the MasterChef kitchen during tonight’s episode up against Maja, Tommy and Depinder.

After their loss in Monday night’s Deliveroo challenge, all four will be tasked with re-creating Sunda chef Khanh Nguyen’s unusual and intricate Beef Wellington/Banh Mi hybrid.

But in a preview clip ahead of tonight’s episode, ‘Perfectionist Pete’ is seen in a panic after forgetting to include egg in his shortcrust pastry.

“I’m feeling so stressed out, this is savage,” he says as his fellow contestants provide encouragement from the gantry.

Noticing his frazzled state, judge Mel Leong approaches his station.

“You’ve been really focused on making sure you nail every element. Perfectionist has become your middle name here,” she says, to which Pete jokes, “Unfortunately.”

“It is at the sacrifice of keeping up. You need to really think about that because I want to see you finish this,” warns Mel.

Pete has been impressing the judges all season with his modern, elegant cooking style, often serving up “Michelin level” dishes to the judges’ delight.

But he doesn’t always get things 100 per cent perfect.

In an episode earlier this month, he narrowly avoided elimination with an “interesting” quail dish served an overpoweringly fruity sauce which the judges weren’t a fan of.

After the show aired, Pete posted a picture of the completed meal, fittingly captioning it: ‘Me and this dish aren’t talking.’

He also memorably set fire to the microwave in front of none other than Heston Blumenthal.

“What’s burning? Something is on fire,” Mel had remarked, prompting Pete to dash to the microwave to find his onion and capsicum dust completely singed.

Riddled with humiliation after the ordeal, Pete explained of making the blunder in front of his food hero: “Someone was going to do something like this, I was just hoping it wasn’t going to be me. I am the first idiot.

“I’m trying to play it cool like I don’t care, but I am dying inside,” he added.

Will he lose his cool tonight, or has he saved his shortcrust pastry just in time?
