A fire was bound to happen sooner or later on MasterChef, and what better week than Superstars week – right in front of your idols.

Unfortunately for contestant Pete Campbell, he was the first cook from 2021 to cause such ruckus in the kitchen.

During Thursday night’s immunity challenge (which will air at 7.30pm on Channel 10), Pete tries to push himself to impress celebrity guest chef Heston Blumenthal, by creating an onion and capsicum dust.

While chatting to judge Melissa Leong, Pete describes how he is feeling, full of hope before his fire debacle.

“At home I do just try things, so it’s quite fun!” he exclaims.

But it all goes downhill very shortly after.

In a clip shared exclusively with news.com.au, Melissa reacts to the smell, asking, “What’s burning? Something is on fire.”

Pete runs to the microwave, only to find his onion and capsicum dust completely singed.

Incredibly embarrassed by the ordeal, Pete explains, “Someone was going to do something like this, I was just hoping it wasn’t going to be me,” he continued. “I am the first idiot.

“I’m trying to play it cool like I don’t care, but I am dying inside.”

Because of his blunder, Pete is forced to ditch his attempt at dust, left scrambling to think of another element he can add to his dish.

During a Heston Blumenthal challenge, this isn’t a position anyone would want to be in.

Pete goes head to head against four other contestants for the immunity challenge on Thursday night’s episode.

The tattoo artist is determined to win to prove his new-found passion for food is something he should continue to pursue.
