MAFS 2020: Fans disgusted as toothbrush poo scandal finally set to air

David Cannon has opened up about why he committed one of the most disgusting acts in Married At First Sight history, saying he was ashamed of himself.

MAFS 2020 Episode 15 Recap: A Scandal Begins

Married At First Sight’s David Cannon has gone into detail about the toothbrush scandal that has rocked this year’s season of the Channel 9 reality show.

David confirmed on news.com.au’s Not Here To Make Friends podcast that he cleaned the toilet with his ‘wife’s’ toothbrush after he discovered Hayley Vernon had kissed another groom (Michael Goonan) during a wild night out.

“About three days after the cheating scandal happens, I’ve heard nothing from Hayley and I’m in a really dark place,” David said on the podcast. “I still had her room key, and that’s when I did something really childish.

“I regret it now because I’ve lowered myself to her level,” he said.

David said that he constantly complained to Hayley about the mess she would leave in the toilet bowl, which he described as “not very lady like”.

“I raised it with her like 16 times,” he said. “The bathroom was just armageddon … that’s when I grabbed the toothbrush and I did something I shouldn’t have, which was to scrub the toilet with her toothbrush and I left it there.

“She used it for five days, then I let one of her friends know and she (Hayley) was told.”

David said on the podcast that he Googled to find out whether his vile act was dangerous, saying, “It’s her own poo, it’s her own bacteria in her own body so it’s not going to hurt her”.

“I’m ashamed of myself,” the reality contestant said.

HAYLEY’S REACTION

The victim of “toiletgate”, Hayley Vernon, first spoke about the incident two weeks ago during a radio interview on Hit FM in the Gold Coast.

“No one else lashed out like that, and everyone else was under the same stress,” she said about her TV husband’s act of revenge.

“He did one of the most repulsive things in the show’s history, and I’d say that’s bordering on abuse.

“I don’t really want to revisit it,” she said during the interview, prompting the hosts to change the subject.

VIEWER REACTION

A promo aired at the end of last night’s episode confirmed that all would be revealed during tonight’s dinner party episode.

“One marriage is suddenly and dramatically spiralling out of control,” the promo teased.

“David has just discovered that his wife Hayley is out on the town and cosying up to one of the other husbands. David’s act of revenge on wife Hayley leaves everyone in disbelief.”

The promo showed ‘relationship experts’ Mel Schilling said John Aiken looking suitably distressed.

“That is disgusting,” Schilling said, with Aiken adding: “I don’t know that we’ve seen a dinner party unravel to this level before”.

Online, fans of the show were both giddy and disgusted.

Married At First Sight continues at 7.30pm tonight on Channel 9.
