Karl Stefanovic dodges questions about infamous Noosa ‘mess’
Today show host Karl Stefanovic was forced to sidestep questions when quizzed on the incident involving Michael Clarke.
Karl Stefanovic has shut down repeated attempts by Nova hosts Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald, Michael “Wippa” Wipfli and Kate Ritchie to quiz him about that infamous Noosa incident back in January.
Appearing on the Fitzy & Wippa With Kate Ritchie show this morning, the Today show host remained tight-lipped when asked about the events that unfolded at a Noosa park between Michael Clarke and his then-girlfriend Jade Yarbrough, who is the sister of Stefanovic’s wife, Jasmine.
A video of the row went viral showing Jade accusing the former captain of the Australian cricket team of cheating with his ex, fashion designer Pip Edwards.
Aside from the standard media statement issued by Clarke apologising for the public fracas, other parties featured in the video, including Stefanovic, have maintained their silence.
And the journalist continued to hold his ground despite the on-air questioning.
“You haven’t opened up about that yet, do you want to do it now on the Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie show?” Fitzgerald asked, to which Stefanovic replied: “Not really, nahhh.”
Also appearing on the show was his Today show co-host Sarah Abo, who was asked if it was “so tempting” to spill the tea.
“Ah, it’s just, ugh, it’s just a nah. Nahhh,” he repeated.
Fitzgerald tried again, reworking the question to: “Did you suffer any injuries from that day?”
Again he was met with: “Nahhh. It’s just that it’s just a big fat nahhh.”
Wipfli appeared ready to move the interview along, hilariously deducing their headline should be: “Stefanovic describes the incident as a ‘big fat nahhh.’”
Stefanovic was more forthcoming in an interview on The Kyle & Jackie O Show. Although host Kyle Sandilands was a no-show for the live broadcast this morning, his pre-recorded interview with Stefanovic was aired in which the journo gave more of an insight into what went down in Noosa.
“Was [your cousin] there? Was she part of that whole, you know, the Clarkey [incident]? What happened there?” Sandilands asked. “I know you don’t like talking about the whole park situation … but that’s all brushed [aside]? That’s all gone now, right?”
When his guest appeared to stammer, Sandilands pushed: “It’s a mess? It’s tough?”
“It’s a mess,” Stefanovic confirmed.
