Karl Stefanovic has ignored bombshell allegations he touched a waiter at a charity event, remaining tight-lipped about the major story on air this morning.

News broke yesterday that the controversial Today host been accused of touching an unnamed waiter at a Mercedes-Benz melanoma charity fundraiser in Brisbane in August, according to the Courier Mail.

The 48-year-old hosted the event, with wife Jasmine in attendance, and it raised a staggering $290,000 for melanoma research.

The allegations made headlines across the nation on Thursday, given Stefanovic has been a television stalwart for decades.

However, the father of four made no mention of the allegations on Today on Friday morning, while temporary co-host Sarah Abo also conspicuously ignored the matter.

Queensland Police told the Courier Mail that they were investigating an alleged assault said to have taken place on August 20.

“Queensland Police are investigating a report regarding the alleged assault of a man at a Newstead business during an event on Saturday, August 20,” a spokesman said.

“As investigations are ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Stefanovic has not been charged.

Stefanovic has been in London over the last week to cover the Queen’s funeral for Channel 9.

He flew back on Wednesday, leaving co-host Allison Langdon to lead proceedings from outside Buckingham Palace alone.

Channel 9 was contacted for comment.

Once the golden boy of Australian TV, Stefanovic has had a tumultuous few years, beginning with the break-up of his decades-long marriage to Cassandra Thorburn, the mother of three of his children.

The pair separated in late 2016 and formally finalised their divorce in May 2017, and reports soon emerged he was dating fashion designer and model Jasmine Yarbrough, who he married in 2018.

That year, he faced major professional setbacks when former co-host Lisa Wilkinson departed Today, and was replaced by Georgie Gardner – only to see the show’s ratings plunge.

In 2018 he also made headlines after an Uber driver reportedly recorded a 45-minuute speakerphone conversation between Stefanovic and his brother Peter — who was travelling in the Uber car with his wife Sylvia Jeffreys during the late night call — in which he reportedly slammed colleagues and close mate Richard Wilkins.

The driver shared the details to a magazine for a reported $50,000, causing a major scandal.

Then, in 2019, he was unceremoniously dumped from the show – only to return a little over 12 months later, alongside new co-host Allison Langdon.

But rumours he was set to again leave the show began swirling earlier this year, with Woman’s Day reporting in April that Stefanovic would be stepping away from his position as breakfast television co-host for Channel 9 and would focus on producing more stories for 60 Minutes.

The report declared that Stefanovic would continue to play a behind-the-scenes role at the Today show that would allow him to spend more time with his family.

Stefanovic denied the claims, telling 3AW’s Neil Mitchell the rumours were “absolutely bullsh*t”.
