Gladiators star Jett Kenny rushed to doctors mid-show after brutal take-down
Only two episodes into the highly-anticipated reboot and Channel 10’s reality reboot has already faced trouble.
Gladiators only returned to screens this week but the show has already faced its first brutal injury.
Aussie athlete Jett Kenny made his debut as Viking on Tuesday night’s episode of Channel 10’s rebooted series, but it didn’t take long for it to all end in tears for the hunk.
During one of the episode’s first games, Kenny, aka Viking, was seen tackling a contestant in an effort to block him from dropping a ball into a basket and scoring a point.
However, as they fell to the ground in a brutal battle the star appeared to land awkwardly on the ground. While his rival jumped up and continued with the game, Kenny remained laid on the floor seemingly writhing around in pain.
“Fingers crossed it looks worse than it was,” said some of his fellow Gladiators as the narrator revealed that injured star had been rushed to the medical team for treatment.
“It’s really unfortunate to see. Man, he was tough out there,” said contestant Chris, who was the one that tacked the star to the ground.
Viewers rushed to share their shock, with one tweeting: “I was expecting only the contestants to get maimed.#GladiatorsAU”, while another hoped Kenny was alright, adding: “Poor Jet I know he was out a while after that #Gladiatorsau”.
Later in the show it was revealed that the Aussie athlete wouldn’t make it back for the remainder of the show, but would hopefully return later in the series.
Meanwhile, when the show debuted on Monday night, some eagle-eyed fans took to social media to share their confusion of the show’s audience noises.
While there was plenty of cheering and wahooing from the crowd throughout the episode, there didn’t appear to be a live audience actually watching all the action.
As a result, suspicious viewers found themselves chuckling at the notion producers added in fake noises, tweeting: “There’s no people in the crowd. Where did those cheers come from? Hahaha. #GladiatorsAU”.
A second viewer complimented the show’s reboot as a whole, but shared their frustration over producers “faking” the audience noises, saying: “I wish they wouldn’t try and pretend there’s an audience but considering how cheap the budget for this would have been this is a great revival so far. #GladiatorsAU”.
