Viewers warned ahead of Ten’s high-profile new series Gladiators
Ten has a strict warning to those tuning into the reboot of Gladiators tonight.
Viewers have been given a strict warning ahead of Channel 10’s highly anticipated Gladiators reboot.
The Australian reality TV program, which aired two seasons on Channel 7 in 1995 and was briefly revived in 2008, returns to screens on Channel 10 tonight.
With the show set to be seriously action-packed, Ten have placed a warning in front of tonight’s show in an effort to protect some of the series’ younger viewers.
“Hey guys, us Gladiators love a big hit and a big fall, but we’ve got super-sized muscles and a soft landing, so don’t go trying this out on the playground, alright?” says one of the show’s new stars. “Grab your popcorn at let us take care of the take-downs, we need you and your mates in tip-top shape to cheer us on.”
Stepping into the hosting gig three decades after it first premiered are retired NRL player Beau Ryan and netball great Liz Ellis, while the referee of the show is the former Australian Gladiator and rugby league player, Mark McGaw, also known as Hammer.
“It’s an iconic franchise and I’m excited about the reboot,” Ellis said when the reboot was first announced. “It is set to showcase some of my favourite Gladiator challenges from the original series as well as throw up a few new ones for us to fall in love with!”
Ryan added: “I am beyond excited to be hosting Gladiators Australia alongside the great Liz Ellis. Liz is a national treasure, and we are going to have a lot of fun. I grew up watching and loving Gladiators Australia and can’t wait to get into it. It’s going to be spectacular.”
The premise of the debut series involved resident competitors – the Gladiators – pit against one-time-only Contenders to battle it out in different gruelling events in front of an arena audience.
The revived series will follow a similar tried-and-tested format with some newly-created events. However, Ten previously revealed that fan-favourite events including Hang Tough, Duel, The Wall, Power Ball, Pyramid and The Eliminator will be included in the line-up of challenges.
The new team of Gladiators is made up of an impressive line-up of Australian athletes and sports stars, including ironman Jett Kenny, former Hockeyroo Katelin van Zyl, and former professional basketballer Tatyanna Dumas. Other Gladiators include powerlifting champion Jaymi Morris, Commonwealth Games weightlifter and gymnast Alethea Boon and stunt actor Chanique Greyling.
Gladiators airs Monday, January 15 at 7.30pm on 10 and 10 Play.
