SINGER Dan Sultan has apologised for a “train wreck” performance in which he fell off his chair on stage and forgot lyrics, saying he has postponed his national tour and is “seeking professional help.”

Furious concert goers vented their frustration at the Melbourne rocker’s “very uncomfortable” Cairns show, describing it as “like watching a train wreck”.

Sultan has postponed his national tour in order to seek professional help for drinking issues.

Sultan issued an apology on Facebook for his poor show in Cairns.

“I want to apologise to all of my fans, particularly those who were at the Cairns show on Saturday night,” he wrote.

“My behaviour was inexcusable and disrespectful. I’d also like to extend an apology to the staff at Tanks Arts Centre for what occurred.

“I am taking stock of my personal situation and am seeking professional help.”

Concert goers complained of Sultan falling off his chair and his shaky voice, with one social media video showing him singing out of tune and forgetting the words of Britney Spears’ song Baby One More Time.

Over 500 patrons who attended the show will now be eligible for a ticket refund.

Sultan’s management issued a statement today, which said: “In light of current circumstances we have decided to postpone the remainder of Dan’s Killer Solo Tour.

“We apologise to Dan’s fans for any inconvenience this may cause.

“Dan’s health and wellbeing is our highest priority at this time and we thank you for your ongoing understanding and support.

“We hope to reschedule the postponed dates once Dan makes a full recovery,” the statement added.

Sultan’s close circle urged the singer to “take time off” to “get himself right” after concerns the touring lifestyle was taking it toll.

The ARIA Award winning singer-songwriter has admitted to drinking problems in the past.

“I’ve done plenty in the past to have people doubt me,” he said in a 2014 interview.

“I’ve had a bit too much fun sometimes but that’s who I am.

He added: “We don’t drink on tour any more. It’s a lot harder going to sleep at night, but a lot easier waking up in the morning.”

Cairns concert goer Frank Dangelico posted on Sultan’s Facebook page to express his disappointment in the show.

“Don’t know what’s going on in your life, but to watch you fall off your stool, sing way off and clearly have no idea about how terrible your performance was, is just so profoundly disappointing and disrespectful to us as an audience and to your own professionalism and talent,” he wrote.

Fellow concert attendee Sally Seawright said she couldn’t bear sitting through the concert.

“We left after the third song. Around the time Dan fell off his chair,” she wrote.

A Cairns Regional Council spokeswoman said Ticketlink would only handle refunds.

“Any further inquiries should be directed to the artist’s management,” she said.

The show sold out with 550 tickets purchased. Tickets to the show were $40 each and were only available through Ticketlink.
