Microphone hurled by Cardi B during Las Vegas concert sells for $150k

Someone has paid more than $150,000 for the microphone Cardi B hurled at a rowdy fan, who threw a drink on her during a Las Vegas show.
The rapper went viral last month after she became the latest celebrity to have an object thrown at her mid-concert and retaliated in an astounding way.
According to footage filmed by fans, the New York native was performing “Bodak Yellow” at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas when a fan raised a white, decorated cup and tossed liquid in the 30-year-old rapper’s direction.
Cardi B, at first visibly startled by the splash, transformed into a fastball-throwing athlete and launched her microphone at the woman. Security quickly intervened and escorted the fan from the venue while Cardi B resumed her show.
After the dramatic incident, Drai’s Beachclub announced it had found the offending microphone. It belonged to the production company behind the concert, The Wave in Sin City, and was put up for auction on eBay.
“It was pretty easy to track down the mic after the show, because the white tape across the bottom of it says ‘MAIN’, and it still works despite Cardi chucking it into the crowd,” Scott Fisher, who owns The Wave in Sin City, told TMZ.
“I was encouraged to sell the mic but decided I would try to do something good. 100% of the profit from the sale of this mic will be evenly split among two charities.”
Those charities are the Friendship Circle Las Vegas, which assists young people with special needs, and the Wounded Warrior Project, which assists severely wounded veterans.
After 124 frenzied bids, the microphone sold for a staggering US$99,900 (A$153,000).
The accompanying description of the famous mic insisted it was authentic.
“This is the Shure microphone shown in all the viral videos that Cardi B threw at a person in the crown at Drais Beach Club on July 29th 2023,” the seller said.
“There are literally tons of links to videos all over the internet.
“You can see in the videos the white tape across the bottom.”
The microphone-throwing incident became more complicated when, shortly afterwards, Las Vegas Metro Police Department announced it was investigating Cardi B for battery.
“On July 30, 2023, an individual came into an LVMPD police station to report a battery,” the department told Variety.
“According to the victim, she was attending an event on July 29, 2023, at a property located in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Boulevard.
“During a concert, she was struck by an item that was thrown from the stage.”
Eventually, it was determined no one would be charged over the incident.
