Adele confirms comeback single Easy On Me out ahead of new album 30

Mysterious social media activity and billboards bearing the number ‘30’ all around the world have sent Adele fans into overdrive over the past week, with speculation the singer is moments from announcing a new album building.

And overnight, confirmation from the woman herself, who has revealed on social media that her eagerly awaited comeback single Easy On Me will be released next Friday, October 15.

Fans can’t hear too much of the track in the 15-second, black and white teaser below - but those expecting a big change of sound from Adele might be disappointed, as it sounds like the song is a moody piano ballad:

Adele had earlier suddenly updated her social media pages and website with the same mottled greeny-blue background, with a link urging fans to sign up for information.

It comes after many months of whispers new Adele tracks are on the horizon, with fans certain her fourth album will be called 30 – after 19, 21 and 25 were named after pivotal years in her life. The artist, now 33, split from her ex-husband Simon Konecki at age 30.

Back in 2019, the singer joked about her fourth album being called ‘30’ in a 2019 tongue-in-cheek Instagram post, writing: “30 will be a drum and bass record to spite you all.”

After the number was projected onto several buildings around the world over the weekend, fans sent the hashtag #adeleiscoming trending on Twitter.

The mysterious projections were spotted on the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome, Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, Amsterdam’s Nemo Museum and New York’s Empire State Building.

The logo – printed with the same font as her previous albums – has also popped up in other random locations across the world.

Not only that – the songstress has posted her first tweet since January, responding to Twitter’s cheeky message to the entire platform today while Facebook and Instagram were down.

Adele’s last album, the record-breaking 25, was launched with its own mysterious marketing campaign. During an ad break of the British X Factor, viewers weresurprised with a 30-second excerpt of a new song (later revealed to be Hello) broadcast against a blank screen.

That record, the follow-on from her 2011 record 21 – for which she won six Grammys – and her debut 19 in 2008, earned her five trophies at the Grammys, including Album of the Year for 25, Record of the Year, Pop Vocal Album, Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year for Hello.

It went on to sell more than 3.5 million copies in the UK alone, making it the country’s 14th best-selling record of all time and broke sales records in the US.

Over the years, Adele has amassed a total of 15 Grammys.

Adele – who made headlines with her 45kg weight loss at the end of 2019 – has been keeping a low public profile in recent years aside from a stint hosting Saturday Night Live last year.

At the time, she addressed pressure from fans to release her new album.

“I know there’s been a lot of chatter about me just being the host. Like, ‘Why isn’t she the musical guest?’ and stuff like that,” she said.

“And there’s a couple of reasons. My album’s not finished, and I’m also too scared to do both … I’d rather just put on some wigs, have a glass of wine or six and just see what happens.”
