Katy Perry announces career comeback with racy video

Katy Perry’s back with her first new music in years – and a racy new look she’s teasing in this candid video shared on social media.

Katy Perry has given fans a first taste of her new music – and a racy new look – as she prepares to launch a career comeback.

Perry today announced that she will release a new single, Woman’s World, on July 11, with the video to follow a day later.

And she even shared a brief snippet of the new song on social media, with Perry singing along in a very revealing, tiny white bikini.

“Sexy confident, so intelligent / she is heaven sent, so soft, so strong,” she sings over a midtempo electro beat.

Perry’s carefully planned 10-second teaser may have been spoiled, though: Other, longer clips from the song are already circulating on social media, almost a month before its release. This being 2024, though, there’s some debate about whether these clips are the real thing or the work of AI.

Woman’s World is going to be an important release for Perry, who hasn’t released an album since 2020’s underperforming Smile.

Perry’s ready to be a pop star again.

New music, and a racy new look.

That album was home to just one top 20 single, Never Really Over – a far cry from Perry’s peak Teenage Dream era, where she scored a record-breaking six number one US hits from the same album.

But on social media, everyone’s a critic, and reactions to the initial snippet have been mixed so far. One person called it a “Hillary Clinton 2016 ass track,” while another wrote that it “literally sounds like a RuPaul verse that would get you eliminated,” referring to the music challenges on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

“Oh it’s gonna build and have a soaring chorus,” another fan insisted.

This return to music comes after Perry recently bid an emotional farewell to American Idol, where she had served as a judge for the past seven years.

Perry, 39, welcomed her daughter, Daisy Dove, with fiance Orlando Bloom in August 2020.

The singer has undergone something of a Gen Z rebrand in recent months, revamping her image as she readies her return to pop music.
