James Packer pulls out of Karl Stefanovic’s wedding
They’ve been close mates for a decade, but James Packer has pulled the pin on attending Karl Stefanovic’s upcoming wedding in Mexico.
Karl Stefanovic’s star-studded wedding to Jasmine Yarbrough is just days away, but James Packer won’t be in attendance.
The billionaire has reportedly pulled out of his close mate’s wedding at the last minute in order to attend his mother’s 80th birthday, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Packer, 51, was long thought to be one of the celebrity guests flying in for the December 8 nuptials in Mexico.
Ros Packer, who was married to media mogul Kerry Packer for 42 years before his death in 2005, is believed to have flown to Argentina to meet her son and continue her birthday celebrations in South America.
In November, it was widely reported that the TV personality had even tapped his billionaire bestie on the shoulder to be his best man on the big day. The pair have been friends for more than a decade and Stefanovic reportedly sat front row at Packer’s wedding to his former wife Erica Baxter back in 2007.
In July last year, Stefanovic and Yarbrough were spotted holidaying in Bora Bora with Packer and his kids, aboard his luxury yacht Arctic P. This year, the engaged couple joined the casino mogul and his socialite girlfriend Kylie Lim on his boat in Sardinia, Italy.
The Today show host and his bride-to-be arrived at Sydney airport on Sunday morning, set to fly out to Mexico for the lavish affair.
Flying with them were two of Stefanovic’s children to his first wife, Cassandra Thorburn — Jackson, 19, and Ava, 13 as well as Yarbrough’s sister Jade, brother Josh and his New Zealand model girlfriend, Emily May Baker.
Stefanovic’s youngest son River flew out of Sydney this morning.
The group was greeted at Mexico’s Los Cabos International Airport by lingering paparazzi.
The wedding guest list reportedly includes plenty of well known Aussies, including Julie Bishop and her partner David Panton, Roxy Jacenko, Alan Jones, Shane Warne, Richard Wilkins, Tim Gilbert, Sylvia Jeffreys and of course, brothers Peter and Tom Stefanovic.
Surprisingly, Stefanovic’s former Today co-host Lisa Wilkinson didn’t receive an invitation, despite him saying he had “nothing but love for Lisa”, upon her departure from Channel 9.
Stefanovic’s mother Jenny will also be attending the wedding alongside the TV host’s three children with ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn.
It had been initially thought that Stefanovic’s eldest child Jackson, 19, might skip the nuptials, however, he was photographed at LAX airport on Sunday alongside his father.
The Today host’s estranged father Alex is not expected to attend.
The 44-year-old and his shoe designer fiancee are believed to have splashed tens of thousands of dollars on ritzy accommodation for themselves and their guests.
Here’s everything else we know about one of the biggest Australian celebrity weddings of the year:
THE VENUE
Stefanovic and Yarbrough will tie the knot at the luxurious One & Only Palmilla Resort in San Jose del Cabo on Saturday, December 8.
The resort is a favourite of celebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston and was also where The Hills ’ Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt eloped in 2008.
Today host Stefanovic and shoe designer Yarbrough are expected to exchange vows in the resort’s white chapel and have reportedly shelled out tens of thousands of dollars on accommodation for themselves and guests in the five-star hotel’s villas.
The resort is a popular haunt for celebs including Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston.
THE DRESS
Yarbrough, 34, will wear a dress designed by up-and-coming wedding designer Jess Andreatta, The Daily Telegraph has reported.
Andreatta told the newspaper she and Jasmine had been working on a design together since May, revealing the dress would take into account “the location and overall vibe of the wedding”.
It’s expected to cost as much as $25,000.
Her bridesmaids will wear dresses designed by Rachel Gilbert, the shoe designer’s sister Jade told the Sydney Morning Herald.
Yarbrough only finalised the dresses for her bridesmaids last week, with Jade explaining her sister had been “super-relaxed about it and kept looking for something that would suit so many different body types”.
THE WEDDING PARTY
Yarbrough will have a staggering seven bridesmaids when she walks down the aisle, with sister Jade, plus Mara & Mine business partner Tamie Ingham making the cut alongside high school friends Sarah Johnson, Sophie Pentland, Jimilla Houghton, Stoj Bulic and Georgie Fleming, Fairfax reports.
Stefanovic was said to have been in a “mild panic” about how to match his fiancee’s seven bridesmaids but his groomsmen are tipped to include his two brothers Peter and Tom.
THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION
While the couple are expected to exchange vows in the resort’s chapel, multiple reports have claimed that Stefanovic and Yarbrough are already legally married after completing the necessary paperwork prior to leaving for Mexico.
It will be the second trip down the aisle for the couple, who said ‘I do’ in a non-legally binding commitment ceremony in Sydney’s Palm Beach in March.
Not much is known about the reception afterwards except that it will feature tributes to Yarbrough and Stefanovic’s Queensland roots, with Fairfax reporting the couple — who apparently bonded over a shared love of rum — will have a drinks stand dedicated to the spirit.
WILL THERE BE PHOTOS?
Stefanovic has previously said there will be no media deal when it comes to photos of the couple at their wedding.
Instead it’s likely that Stefanovic and Yarbrough will release photos via their Instagram accounts and on the Today show like they did for their commitment ceremony earlier this year.
Despite that, paparazzi photos of the ceremony are tipped to fetch more than $150,000, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Australian and international photographers are tipped to descend on the Mexican resort town to try to nab photos of the pair.
