Imogen Anthony and Kyle Sandilands split: Behind the power couple’s wild eight year romance

The couple was outspoken about their sex life and plans for marriage and kids but have now announced their split. Here’s why.

Kyle Sandilands announces shock split from Imogen Anthony on-air

Kyle Sandilands shocked everyone this week by announcing he and his long-term girlfriend Imogen Anthony had split.

The formerly loved-up pair, both outspoken individuals, were a wild couple, famous for their PDAs and their 20 year age gap.

A dejected Sandilands made the announcement on air on Tuesday, saying they’d been living separately for “months” and the relationship had “run its course”.

Anthony and Sandilands met at the radio king’s 40th birthday party, when Sandilands approached the young model in the corner while she “smoked a joint”.

Two years after they met, Sandilands told WHO he only had eyes for the outspoken young woman, saying the couple were planning to soon have children.

“If anything happened to her, I could never be with anyone else,” he said in the 2013 interview.

The couple, who over the years repeatedly said they had discussed marriage and children, never did tie the knot. Last year Sandilands said in an interview the couple had continued to talking it over, but they were “busy” with other things.

Anthony, echoed these sentiments, telling The Saturday Telegraph earlier this year that looking after Sandilands was a “full time job”.

After Sandilands made the announcement, wild videos of Anthony could be seen on her Instagram, showing her partying in LA with rapper Brooke Candy.

In videos posted by Anthony, Candy lifted her top on stage, while Anthony could be heard loudly cackling.

‘LIKE A CAT’: WILD FIGHT FRIGHTENS JOHN IBRAHIM

The former couple had a notably wild relationship, and early this year dismissed persistent rumours of a split.

One of Sandilands’ friends and neighbours talked about once seeing the pair fight, describing a wild scene which involved Anthony jumping on the bonnet of Sandilands’ moving car.

John Ibrahim, a notorious Sydney nightclub owner and friend of the couple, recalled their “first fight” in an on-air interview with Kyle and Jackie O in 2017. He said while living across the road, he heard the garage door open before seeing the pair fighting.

“All of a sudden you see Imogen jump on the bonnet, like you would a cat, with Ugg boots on and a singlet,” Ibrahim said. “Imogen was screaming, ‘Where you going, you fat C-word?’”

“She stood up on the bonnet with her arms folded, and you see him drive back into the driveway the garage door comes closing down. I almost died!

“I rang (Kyle), and I couldn’t talk I was laughing so hard. And he said, ‘Don’t tell me you saw that?’ He said, ‘She weighs 45 kilos but I’m petrified of her!’.’’

‘I DON’T THINK SHE WAS CONSCIOUS’

Sandilands has previously suggested the first time they made love, Anthony was so intoxicated he couldn’t be sure she was conscious.

“She was so blind the first time we made love I’m not sure she was conscious,” Sandilands said on air in March of 2017.

The topic came up when Sandilands and his co-host Jacki O discussed whether couples should wait before they have sex.

Sandilands said waiting was not attractive to him, claiming there was “no way” he would pursue someone who made him chase her.

“If you keep your legs closed, there’s no way I’m chasing you,” he said.

Sandilands has talked openly about his struggles with sex addiction and drug addiction, saying he felt “emasculated” by the breakdown of previous relationships. He said the home he rented in 2010, after he split from his ex-wife Tamara Jaber, “was just a debauched, disgusting sex pit”.

“I was emotionally upset. Feeling like a failure. Emasculated. Write that down,” he told the Fairfax journalist. “Emasculated.”

‘MEN START TO REGRESS’: ANTHONY BABIED SANDILANDS

Anthony said all men start to “regress” when they age, and need to be looked after, in an interview with news.com.au last year.

“All men, I don’t care what anyone says, they start to regress back to being like teenagers as they get older and they need to be mothered a little bit more,” Anthony said.

Opening up out their life together, she said despite appearances, day-to-day life involved a lot of “doing nothing” as they managed a fairly “crazy” schedule, which involved getting up at 4.30am.

“Social media has a perception of showing you what you want to see … but for us, there is a lot of sitting around doing f***ing nothing,” she said. She said Kyle needed “constant” care so his voice was functioning.

“I don’t think we could live without each other,” she said at the time, describing them as being the same person.

AS MUCH TIME TOGETHER AS POSSIBLE

Last year, Sandilands said the key to their relationship was about being together constantly, as they tried spending their time in the same place at their various homes.

“We like to be at the same property,’ Sandilands said a Daily Mail interview. “We don’t like to spend too much time apart from each other.

“If I’m having a big week where I’m coming home and going to bed and sleeping five hours and then getting up and going to work again she might go down and ride horses with some of her girlfriends for a couple of days.

“We like to try and stay in the same area the whole time.”

The pair, at the time, had been together for six years. Sandilands said they’d discussed marriage but nothing had been formalised, as they were always “so busy”.

Anthony returned from LA this week and on Friday afternoon addressed the breakup on her Instagram after chasing a reporter off her property.

“I’m fine, don’t trespass onto our property,” Anthony said, who looked upset.

“Everyone is busting for details and quite frankly it’s none of anyone’s business. But at the same time there is something to be said about shutting up all the people just speculating and talking sh*t.

“We still love each other very much. We speak every day. We still see each other. We deal with each other.

“God. There’s so much more to it than what people just see for black and white. There is such a grey area here. But in saying that as well, we didn’t want to kind of... have everyone think something differently when we’re not those kinds of people.

“We have a lot to deal with separately,” she said, explaining it had been one of the “hardest” years for both of them.

“We just kind of wanted to get ourselves into the best form of ourselves we can be without pissing in each others pockets.

“It’s sad…” she said, concluding that she wasn’t sure if it was definitely the end.
