Chrissie Swan has broken down during a candid interview, in which she revealed she was, at one point, “halfway to dying”.

The Australian radio host, 49, sat down on The Imperfects podcast where she opened up about her decision to overhaul her health, which saw her lose a reported 90kg during Melbourne’s relentless Covid lockdowns.

The mother-of-three got emotional while talking about her lowest moment before making a lifestyle change, saying she woke up one day, at 45 years of age, and realised, “I reckon I’m halfway to dying, if I’m lucky.”

She added: “Am I happy with this going on the way it is? Am I happy with who I am with other people? am I happy with who I am for me? What do I want to change?”

It was then she decided to start walking every day, a decision she said “changed” everything.

“I get emotional thinking about it because walking has absolutely changed my life,” Swan said through tears.

“It’s hard to make changes and look at stuff, you know, you don’t want to do it, you want to stay in the whirlpool because it makes everybody happy.

“But nowadays I’m so attune, and if something feels wrong, I say, ‘I’m going to walk on it.’ And sometimes that takes an hour, sometimes it takes 10km every day for a month, but I get the answer.”

Swan’s dramatic body transformation comes as she revealed on The Project back in late 2021 that, as part of her lifestyle change, she had also quit drinking, telling viewers, “It was a decision I made for myself after giving it a fair nudge in the first lockdown last year.”

“I haven’t had a drink in about nine months,” she said at the time.

“I do recommend it. If you’re thinking, ‘Oh, maybe I’m drinking a bit much’ or ‘It’s not helping me any more’, I think that’s the biggest thing I’ve taken from it, is that it didn’t help.

“With the pressures and anxieties and worries and being responsible for kids, and their whole life has changed and you’re their parent, you feel enormous guilt,” she said.

“You kind of feel like having a few drinks will take the edge off – and a couple of drinks does – but eventually it’s at the stage where it doesn’t help and it certainly wasn’t helping me.”

It’s certainly been a period of change for Swan, who began hosting her very own national radio show with Nova Entertainment, The Chrissie Swan Show, this year.

The new career move came after Nova confirmed its breakfast show line-up featuring Swan, Sam Pang and Jonathan ‘Browny’ Brown would be ending after seven years on air.

Landing her own radio show, which airs from 2pm to 4pm weekdays, was the latest in a series of career hits for Swan, who appeared across multiple shows on the Ten Network in 2022 – as host of Would I Lie To You, a regular on The Project and most recently as one of the new judges on The Masked Singer.
