Chrissie Swan has opened up about the “liberating” decision she made several years ago as she embarked on a more active lifestyle.
The popular Australian presenter, soon to be seen as a judge on The Masked Singer Australia, underwent a noticeable transformation after she gave up drinking and began walking every day, keeping her Instagram followers updated on her daily strolls.
And in a series of Instagram stories posted overnight, Swan revealed the surprisingly simple key to her success: She wears running shoes almost everywhere, leaving her little excuse not to get her steps up.

“I made the decision a few years back that I was going to wear the stuff that allowed me to do what *I* wanted to do,” Swan began, posting footage of her runners and activewear-clad legs as she pounded the pavement.
“This decision freed me up in ways I can’t describe. And lets face it – you can’t ‘fly’ in high heels!”
“It’s a bit about not caring what people think, and a bit about removing any obstacle that prevents me from moving for my mental health …
“Every day I put on my runners FIRST thing and I don’t think about it again – I just get on to living my best life. I’ve found it to be the most liberating decision of my life – so simple. It surprised me.
“I feel as long as these shoes are on my feet, nothing can stop me from getting out there and seeing the world and finding treasures in the ordinary things. So far, so good!”
While Swan made the announcement as part of a paid partnership with a brand of runners, fans who follow her on social media will know she’s been pounding the pavement religiously for several years now.
She opened up about her health journey to the Australian Women’s Weekly in February, revealing that her walking habit started during Covid lockdowns.
“We couldn’t go out to dinner, we couldn’t go to a friend’s house, they couldn’t come to us, we couldn’t go outside five kilometres. All we could do was walk, and so that’s what I did,” she said.
But she also said she was careful not to spend too much time talking about the details of her weight loss.
“I’m not going to talk about the size of my a**e. I’m not going to tell you what I eat in a day. Because I’ve read those stories and they make me feel bad about myself,” she said.
Swan’s dramatic transformation comes as she revealed on The Project back in October last year that she had quit drinking, telling viewers “it was a decision I made for myself after giving it a fair nudge in the first lockdown last year”.
“I haven’t had a drink in about nine months,” she said.
“I do recommend it. If you’re thinking, ‘Oh, maybe I’m drinking a bit much’ or ‘It’s not helping me any more’, I think that’s the biggest thing I’ve taken from it, is that it didn’t help.”
And it seems she’s stuck to it: When a sheepish Swan appeared on The Project last month having lost her voice at the Logies, she was quick to point out it had been from too much laughing and catching up with industry friends, and booze hadn’t played a part.
