Thandie Newton drops F-bomb on live TV
THE WESTWORLD star swore as she collected her award but it was her comment about religion that really caused a stir.
AWARD show acceptance speeches are usually a time for stars to cry, thank their loved ones and God.
But that wasn’t the case for Thandie Newton who declared she was an atheist and swore on live TV as she accepted the Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.
“I don’t even believe in God, but I’m going to thank her tonight,” the Westworld star told the Emmys audience.

“I am so f***ing blessed to work with the people I have gotten to work with.”
While her F-bomb on live television barely raised an eyebrow online, Newton’s declaration she was an atheist caused a stir among God-fearing Twitter users.
@Detoxin #ThandieNewton said she doesn't believe in God but she was going to thank "her" tonight (last time I checked that was called blasphemy). #MichaelChe, in his opening monologue stated, and I quote "The only white people that thank Jesus are Republicans and ex-crackheads."

Newton’s Emmy win was nothing short of miraculous, with the actress facing strong competition from The Handmaid’s Tale stars Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel and Ann Dowd and The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby.
During her speech Newton also wished her daughter Ripley a happy 18th birthday.

“I get to guide you and love you and protect you, which is my north star,” she said. “I love you so much, baby.”
Newton won the Emmy for her portrayal of brothel madam turned rebel Maeve on HBO sci-fi Westworld.
She was nominated for the same role last year but lost out to Dowd, who plays Aunt Lydia in The Handmaid’s Tale.
