Best moment of the Emmys: Director Glenn Weiss proposes during his acceptance speech

YOU would be forgiven for tuning out a bit when Glenn Weiss took to the stage to accept his award. But then he did something that had the room in tears.

IF THIS doesn’t make you cry, you might just be dead inside.

Director Glenn Weiss stole the show at the Emmys by proposing to his girlfriend on stage.

Weiss had just won the award for Directing for a Variety Special for his work on the Oscars when he took to the stage and paid tribute to his recently deceased mum.

“Mum always believed in finding the sunshine in things and she adored my girlfriend, Jan,” he said.

“Jan, you are the sunshine in my life and mum was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.”

The crowd erupted and it was hard to tell who was more shocked, Weiss’s girlfriend or Leslie Jones.

Jan couldn’t believe it.

The couple received a standing ovation as Jan made her way onto the stage.

“This is the ring that my dad put on my mum’s finger 67 years ago,” Weiss said to her. “And to my sisters and brothers, I didn’t swipe it, Dad knows I have it, OK!”

The director dropped to one knee and said, “Will you marry me?”

Thankfully Jan said yes and through tears told her new fiancee, “I love you”.

As the happy couple left the stage, many celebrities in the audience were seen wiping tears from their eyes. And they weren’t alone, with viewers taking to social media to rave about the emotional moment.
